Forums - Nintendo - Pokemon Go - Common Pokemon Findings: What Pokemon Are Common In Your Area?

And I don't mean those dang pidgey, rattata and caterpie (though those aren't even that common where I am), I'm meaning other ones you find often around in your area.

When I first started Pokemon Go,  as I traveled around catching Pokemon, I noticed there were a set of certain kinds that would appear often for me. Paras, venonat, ekans, geodude, and growlithe were among some that I would come across the most, and I sort of assumed that was the case for everyone. Though, when I talked about it with my friends living in different places, hearing about the pokemon they found, it was kind of surprising to me. They were finding poliwag, zubat, and drowzee, which were all pokemon which were very rare for me, or never even encountered. It was the same for them when I told them about pokemon common to me. I found this to be pretty cool, and a bit frustrating (poliwrath being one of my favorite gen 1 pokemon. I wish I could find a surplus of poliwag!!!). So this got me thinking, what sort of pokemon are common for other people?

So I thought it'd be cool to ask other users who play Go, what pokemon are common for you? I'd love to hear what sort of pokemon other people have easy access to.

My list consists of:

  • paras
  • ekans
  • venonat
  • geodude
  • growlithe
  • ponyta
  • abra
  • eevee
  • sandshrew
  • mankey

Uncommon

  • rhyhorn
  • cubone
  • doduo

Here in Ireland caterpies are rather rare, in comparison to Weedle, it is far more common to find a Drowsee than a Caterpie.

but yeah it's basically

Pidgey
Rattata
Weedle
Drowzee
Bellsprout
Eevee
Paras
Spearow
Oddish

Pretty much in that order.

Rare stuff then are
Abra
Venonat
Zubat

__________

Seen one Mankey in the wild, and one lured Duduo, caught 2 Machops and 1 Machoke

I'm level 29 now.. so yeah, those fuckers are rare here.

I love the way this aspect of Pokemon Go really solidifies the game as part of the main Pokemon Franchise, just how in the Anime Ash walked his whole way to the Pokemon League just encountering those 2 Pokemon, leaving behind a trail of dead, ground up Raticates and Pidgeottos after they had been ground into candy to feed to his next Pidgey, just walking from episode to episode never using any of his pokemon, just instantly starting every encounter he has with wild Pokemon by hurling a ball at them and then moving on....

Shocking that the franchise has lasted almost 20 years now!

(to be fair, I've walked over 500km doing it... I love the game as an exercise tool, I hate the game "play" with a passion)

Spearow are between uncommon and rare for me, but I rarely ever find bellsprout and oddish. And I've found a machop nest before, interestingly by an exercise focused shop xD

(I read the OP - but there is no other pokemon that appear in my neighborhood).

Wow, you really don't find anything else? ;_; I at least find sandshrew and paras in my neighborhood. And sometimes a random thing like a dratini, poliwrath, and staryu will appear, though those only happened once.

I have enough candy now to bring up 2 more Victreebells and one other Vileplume, first Victreebell I created was just poison moves... wanted grass to take out some Vaporeons from Gyms, now I'm just wielding my 2.5k Snorlax to do the job or my 2.2k Gyarados with Bite.

Vulpix/Growlith/sandshrew/Magnemite/voltorb are all almost non existant here, lucky to see one per 2 weeks and no way to find where they might be if they're on the nearby.

As of 1 hour ago Fast Poke Map have stated that the server side algorithm has been changed again to prevent tracking map sites... such a shame because with those tools I had direction and a time suggestion to reach certain area's in my town, made it into a fun game and good exercise tool... now it would be back to just aimlessly walking up and down streets and back alleys. Terrible shite from Niantic.

Aside from birds and rats I find a lot of geodudes, sandshrews and that's pretty much it.

A lot of fire, poison, and ground Pokemon which is pretty cool! Make sense since in my home in SoCal (drought, hills, and pollution)
Common Pokemon include: Growlithe, Ponyta, Diglet, Geodude, Sandshrew, ekans
Uncommon: Clefairy, Abra
Rare: Rapidash, Graveler(i think?), Koffing
Once: Jolteon (so random!), and one Squirtle

Oh, that's cool! I wish I could get Vileplume and Victreebell, but they're so rare here, I only have gloom and weepinbell. I can relate to pokemon just getting the wrong moves. I got an Exeggutor, hoping it had grass moves to fight water types, but it was a pure psychic type, so now as great as I hoped. Then there was a Raichu, which had the best stats, but it got brick break for its strong attack, so it's kind of useless to me as a water fighter. I wish they wouldn't give such weird moves to pokemon, or have TMs later on or something.

I'm starting to get a growing suspicion that Niantic has nests set up in certain areas, and they change them from time to time. There's a park I visit sometimes for catching and restocking, and one week I was catching tentacool, and then a week or 2 later, it was shellder. A library I used to stop by was a hitmonlee nest, but was changed to a krabby nest. A different park I visit frequent for stops suddenly started spawning magnemite, which never occurred before. I'm not sure if this happens to you.

Also, it was pretty lame that they took away the trackers from the early Go days. Now it's hard to figure out where pokemon you see nearby are even located. It's stressful when something cool shows up, and you have no idea how to find it, only for it to then disappear.

Sounds like us southerners get a similar range of pokemon (poison/fire/ground/rock). How about some of the northerners? xD
