Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Switch's Third Party Situation

Arlight guys, with all the news coming out about the third parties that are pledging support to the Switch, I am becoming more optimistic that Nintendo go this one right. Aside from graphical specs, there has not been much about this console that could turn developers off. But lets discuss which companies Nintendo REALLY needs on deck.

The most necessary third parties, IMO, that Nintendo need to pursue, includes five very big ones. Activision, Betheseda, EA, Take-Two, and Ubisoft. I feel that as long as Nintendo have these five companies backing up the Switch, the Switch wil appeal to the hardcore gamer. Activision has the action games. Betheseda have the RPG/Adventure games. EA has the sports games. Take-Two has the action/adventure/sports games. Ubisoft has almost every type of game. The amount of quality and mainstream IPs these five companies have combined exceeds 30. I think that is a solid number! Combine that with Nintendo IP's and thats a homerun.

Now lets talk who is most likely on board. Ubisoft has been supporting Nintendo for a while so it is almost guranteed they will definitely pump out a few games for the Switch. Activision and EA would do anything to make profit. They have the usual games like CoD, Destiny, Battlefield, FIFA, Madden, and so on. This leaves us with Betheseda and Take-Two. Betheseda have not released a game on a Nintendo console in years, so it is very weird they are somewhat on board. Take-Two has released NBA 2K and WWE 2K a few times but has cut support a bit. These two companies were both part of the Switch trailer, which may mean a lot. Nintendo may most likely have Ubi, EA, and Activision secured, but are still trying to get T2 and Bethesda on board. So they are trying very hard to get support.

Again these are just my opinions, but who do you specifically think Nintendo need on board with the Switch?

I think they need to secure Nintendo. They really only supported the WiiU for the first 3 years.

I heard they have been very difficult to persuade lately HAHAHAHA. IDK though I feel like Ninty games are not enough to make the console successful for Nintendo.

The trio of Activision, Rockstar and Bethesda, assuming full support from them. Would be amazing and it would give a different perspective on Switch's third-party support, though I honestly doubt it'll happen.

I can see Activision being there because they are pretty close to Nintendo due to Skylanders specific features and such. Plus they released two CoD's on the Wii U which were both not that great but they showed some support. Take-Two and Betheseda I am not sure about. Its a 50/50 shot because they have not been on a Ninty console in a while.

No one specifically.

Nintendo needs a console full of enticing & unique games to sell it. Who this comes from isn't too important. The hardcore gamer will go to their Xbox/Playstation to play the massive AAA titles.

Long term I think Ubisoft, Square Enix and EA will be most meaningful for them as these are the companies most likely to build games for the Switch versus just porting. Skyrim and GTAV will make for great launch titles for Switch but I don't think the franchises will be seen on the platform again tbh

Not sure if you strike it out because you don't think it's plausible, or because you don't consider them important. If it is the former, I too agree it looks almost impossible for it to happen. If it's the later, hey, Rockstar moves masses!

Take Two owns Rockstar.

Oh, yeah, I know. But it's not Take-Two specifically what Nintendo needs; Nintendo can live without Mafia, Bioshock or NBA. It's Rockstar and Rockstar games the thing they should aim for.
