Improved working conditions, sure. Residuals? I have no idea why they would expect that. This isn't film.

I guess because if devs make a remaster of release a game again and sell millions the voice actors will see nothing from it.

Neither do people who work far harder and put in far more hours.

Idk how to feel about the situation but what I will say is that if devs dont get residuals, VA shouldn't get them either. Now I m not saying that its bad for VA to want more things but rather, the VA should get less than what the devs get. So if VA gets residuals, Devs should get them too.

A game can be made without VA but it cant without Devs.

Voice actors don't really get that much, the person who earned the most as a voice actor in video games made a total of 300.000 bucks and appeared in more than 400 video games as a voice actor.    You should watch this segment that talks about this strike:  https://youtu.be/pmWk3Q6a_64

Brandon's wife is a voice actress that's why he is also passoniate discussing it.

Its hard enough for developers and publishers to make money in this industry without having to pay voice actors extra if the game is successful. Studios are closing down left and right these days. What will happen is just that companies will hire less voice actors to do more work. They arent that important. Its not like in a movie where the voice acting is crucial for the success of the film. Theres so many people working on a game that deserves bonuses more than voice actors.

But they are also not asking it from the ones who are having a hard time. They are demanding it from companies like Activision/EA... who make billions of one gamefranchise but treat the voice actors basically as dirt.  Yes you are right making 250$ a day from a voice session  is great but at the same time in reality it means they can not do any voice acting for atleast a day or two and hopefully have another session soon after.  It is not that rare that voice actors for video games work 10 years in the industry but did not made 100.000 bucks yet, good luck making a living and when they dare to ask bonusses like 500 bucks when a game sells more than a few million they are treated as scumbags...

It is basically that typical answer of 'you work in the video game industry it is your hobby so be happy with the little you get' and I understand the voice actors are getting tired of it and I support the voice actors in their strike.

Voice actors deserve residuals for their work. I'm glad the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists is championing this.

Nobody is forcing them to work in the industry. There are so many other ways to make a living being a voice actor. Cartoons, radio, commercials, audio books, announcers etc... If working in gaming is such hell, then do something else. They wont though because actual work is way harder.

But then you're amounting VA's to next to nothing, as if their role matters not much for gaming and yet we've seen different. VA's are just as important at bringing a game to life.

Their role does matter... Just not as much as Devs.

I am not saying they don't deserve stuff, I am saying if they get stuff like this, the Devs should get more.

I don't disagree with that statement but at the same we see gamers asking more quality from games but are at the same time fine that people working on those games are exploited by the management. At a point this is going to backfire and hurts the quality of games and that is why I support the strike and yes I hope this can also help devs because I am honestly sick of the 'oh you as want to have more money working on this game? Goodbye we can have a young graduate replacing you and give him less'.

Devs make the game, this is a common thing we all know that has to happen, or you don't egt a game. What also happens is we have games that do require voice actors, those roles are important to fill in for and express at the end of the day, otherwise you end up with a mediocre sounding game. Same with musicians and music.

The devs should get more?, then why not make them get 10 times more and VA's and everyone else a lot less?. You're still trying to put one above the other, what we want is everyone getting paid decently.

But why does every single aspect of game development have be a full time job? Voice acting in games can be a way to get noticed. Look at someone like Steven Ogg. He was awesome as Trevor in GTAV and now he does other acting jobs and now hes awesome as Simon in The Walking Dead.

Whats next? The people writing the end credits in the game will rise up to complain? I mean if it werent for them, it would be hard for us to see who was in the games.
