Forums - Sales - Amazon U.S. November bestsellers and general Amazon-based discussion

Lol, at the people stating what will and won't be a success to Sony. All Sony wants to do is win by at least 300K, though, I see them winning by 400K+. Why? So they can shove it in MS's face by stating that the PS4 was the #1 console for the months of July-Nov in the US, basically stating they wiped away any gain MS made with firesales and exclusives.

And I can't believe people actually think its going to be close, as in less than 100K. We have great pre-order results for the Pro, confirmed by insiders on Gaf and Amazon results. For Sept, the Pro was the only console in the Top 20, and it actually finished in the Top 5. In Oct, it slipped out of the Top 20, but it still was the number one console on the monthly Bestsellers at #26. In Nov, it is currently back in the Top 20, at #17, only being surpassed by the PS4 Slim. Now, let's look at the current Top 20 rankings at Amazon, and other retailers.

Amazon - #1-PS4 UC4, #16-XBO Minecraft, #17-XBO BF1

Gamestop - #1-PS4 UC4+TLOU, #2-PS4 UC4+R&C, #16-XBO GeOW4

Target - #6-PS4 Pro, #8-XBO BF1, #20-PS4 UC4

Best Buy - #9-XBO BF1

Walmart - #2-XBO Minecraft, #3-PS4 UC4, #4-XBO The Division, #5-XBO BF1, #6-XBO BF1, #7-XBO BF1 (1TB), #20-PS4 Pro

You know what any sane person would take from those? That BF may be close, with maybe a slight PS4 lead (considering Amazon and Gamestop are a large chunk of the gaming market), but you include Pro pre-orders and it's an easy win for the PS4.

That xbox one domination. I believe the x1 has november on lock simply because it has more bundles in the top 20 across all retails. That means sales are split between those bundles and therefore you will not see it in the hight 10 on amazon. Last year xbox had one really good bundle (gears ultimate) which was ranked very high but because there were more ps4 bundles the sale number were split between them and eventually the ps4 won November NPD. I believe a similar situation is occuring here with the xbox one taking the win this year.

I totally forgot to go back to the NPD thread after I woke up... I had to go back and close the store again, heh.

So. Basically, our entire stock of the bundles at $249 are gone, and were gone, before the end of my first shift. That's across PS4 and XB1. Both systems did incredibly well. The higher priced bundles on the XB1 side also saw some movement, but being more expensive, that really wasn't the motivation. Likewise, the lack of any special incentives on the Pro meant most people weren't really looking for those on this specific shopping day, and so I saw very few of our Pro inventory move on this particular shopping day. I didn't really expect them to. Sony didn't really increase their shipment of Pro's in preparation for BF, so clearly, they didn't either.

However, both the XB1S and PS4 Slims got very large stock influx beforehand. I don't really know if I have time to really figure out how it balances out, because the XB1 shipment is balanced between multiple SKUs, and yes, they did include the various bundles, not just their cheap ones, so we do have stock left over.

Gotta give MS credit though, on better bundle management for their stock planning though. Last year was a graveyard of misplaced bundles that were still sitting around months later... They've done much better this year with tighter, more well planned bundles. Good job guys! Also tighter planning with how much inventory... though for the BF shipment, maybe a bit overstocked on the 1TB bundles, since those really aren't the motivators? Just musing.

I expect we'll have more PS4 Slims in shortly, maybe even before the end of the weekend, as our Sony rep was stating they've been monitoring the stock situation closely. They've been really good this whole generation with it, so I believe them on that.

------------------

I don't usually comment on the Wii U, like I don't comment on the Vita. It depresses me a bit, how completely these systems were rejected by the market. I love my Vita, and I know Nintendo fans love their Wii Us. I can't really say much in this regard, Nintendo didn't really give us a lot to work with on that front. And even on the 3DS front, we've had great interest due to Pokemon, but we got cleaned out of our entire stock even on the online front of a lot of our core systems almost immediately, so I feel like Nintendo was really tight fisted about their margins. At least they can be content knowing that what they gave us, we sold.

---------------

PSVR units - I've mused about this off and on, but I mean, they don't sit that long, and Black Friday wasn't really a special sale for them, so I don't think it would show up as any major push on our front. Sony seems content with the overall momentum and not trying to sacrifice margin on the hardware to accelerate it. It remains to be seen how their strategy will pan out. We don't get a lot at a time, and they have an extremely low return rate, so they seem to have excellent customer retention with the product.

---------------

As anyone can imagine, we sold a metric fuckton of games. Huge spread, across a myriad of titles, though what that will look like on NPD is anyone's guess, especially since Gamestop sees even more drastic variation.

I still think the PS4 will edge out a win because of the Pro.

Edit- If the gap is less thank 150K then the XB1 could win December.

Nice way to cherry pick it.  Really, the only sites where XBO is doing better (and that may have changed as sites updated their lists) were Walmart and Best Buy.  On Amazon, the largest online retailer, the PS4 has been #1 for quite some time, while the XBO has been slowly dropping.  The PS4 has also been outselling both Pokemon games, which shows that it must be selling a boatload on there.  And on Gamestop, the largest retailer for games, the PS4 had 2 SKUs ahead of the XBO, which means it was outselling the first XBO by at least 2:1.  Probably closer to 2.5:1 considering they were #1 and #2, and XBO was only at #16.

Like I said, any objective person looking at those charts would see a close battle, with maybe the PS4 having a slight edge.  Either way, BF+2 months of PS4 Pro pre-orders and its continued decent sales throughout Nov should lead to a very easy PS4 win.

Okay the best buy chart finally updated.  as a rule the chart is alway 24 hours delayed.  i figured that out by watching new game releases. PS4 on top.  Xbox one not far behind.

So Xbox wins Walmart, Cosco, Target while PS4 wins Bestbuy, Amazon, and Gamestop.

Yea, I'd say PS4 came out a little ahead for BF.  I mean Amazon and Gamestop are the big ones for gaming.  Walmart is a good win for the XBO, but I would imagine Best Buy moves as much as Target, with Cosco doing much less than the others.

I wouldn't say the PS4 won Bestbuy The BF1 X1 was the best selling bundle on there through Thursday night/Friday until the Uncharted PS4 hit the top in the early hours of Saturday and whilst it's at the top there is 4 different X1s bundles before the next PS4, I'd probably give it an edge to Xbox on there.

Also this is just the console charts on Bestbuy

Simple, Amazon and GameStop are bigger than Walmart, Cosco, and Target (never mind even throwing Best Buy in for PS4). The pre-orders will just soldifiy the month (once again )

I partially agree but saying 1 platform "won" is cool but the real question is, by how much if the ps4 won its stores 55-45 and the 3 smaller stores xbox dominated 70-30 there is stilla bit of wiggle room.

Obviously im also thinking the PS4 might be ahead, but untill we have solid numbers, even tough it looks good for ps4, nothing is set in stone.
