Which CPU will be enough for good VR?

Guys, I really want to play games in VR, but first I need a new CPU (I doubt a Celeron G1610 will do).

So, I'm at a doubt between Intel Core i5 6400 to Core i5 6600 Skylake.

I read at Oculus that if you are building a new machine, a intel Core i5 6400 will be enough for a good experience. But... I don't know, I feel like getting a 6600 will not cost me so much more, and it will be overall better. 6600k is way more expensive, and so far I'm not considering it.

So, people that understand about it, please, I need your help.

- Intel Core i5 6400

- Intel Core i5 6500

- Intel Core i5 6600

Or another one?

I would get 6600k if you care about overclocking, otherwise, get the 6500. 6400 is too low and the regular 6600 is only 100mhz more (300mhz turbo) but also costs $21 more and you sound like you are on a budget. So I say the best value is 6500 if you aren't comfortable overclocking.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

the 6400 has an all core turbo of 3.1 ghz, the 6600 3.6ghz, so there is quite a bit of a difference there
the 6600K has the same all core turbo as the non-K, so only get that one if you consider overclocking

the base clock isn't really all too relevant, in games these CPUs will run at the all core turbo clock (usually the 1 core turbo is listed, which is used very rarely) even with the boxed cooler

and the 6500 is at 3.3 ghz in all core turbo

What?

Turbo is 3.6ghz...

Edit: Woops, didn't read the all core turbo thing

Guys, I live in a crazy country called Brazil, and... Actually, 6500 is more expensive than 6600.

I checked the shop where I buy my PC related things and...

i5 6400 - 746 BRL

i5 6500 - 972 BRL

i5 6600 - 868 BRL

I... I don't know if this is some mistake by the shop site, but that's what I'm seeing here. I think it's wrong because it's the same price as the 6600k.

@Captain Yuri: To be honest, I don't care about overclocking it, so that's one of the reasons I ruled out 6600k.

Esssh, I would 110% go with the 6600 then.

So, 6400 no way, then?

To be honest, I was going to rule it out from the beginning, I just wanted another opinion on it, and from what I'm seeing, yeah, it would be a waste of money.

I want a good CPU for any modern game and VR.

Nahh, its just too low. Minimum 6500 or above but since you can get a great deal on a 6600, there is no reason to not get it.

Thank you. So far I'm leaning toward 6600 then.

I'll just wait to see if someone else pops with another opinion, but I think this is the deal I want.
