Sony blind fanboy detected since 1972.

I am not who you're referring to, but personally I am a generally pessimistic person and I am against overt praise for any of the big companies. I usually don't get involved as I don't want to get banned because if I didn't I would probably counter everyone that is too defensive of their company of choice.

I was not talking about you.

How would it minimize negative press in any way? It's only the opposite since there's less time for people to forget or come to terms with the bad news.

It would minimize negative press because there wouldn't be time for anti hype like there was with Xbox One. Its also why they didn't show Ps4 Pro until after E3. If it was shown along with Scorpio it would have been destroyed by anti hype. Same situation here.

Anti-hype?  The Xbox One was panned from day one, it took months for any actual hype to be generated :P (see above post)

Will there be any western marketing? Cuz YouTube vids an a random Japanese conference wouldn't do much for the biggest gaming market. Still, excited to see. Too long of a wait! .-.

Hate isn't a delayed reaction, it's immediate, it's simultaneous with the bad news. If there's time for the news, then there's plenty of time for the hate. There's no instance of widespread hate I can think of that happened months or even weeks after the fact, rather than immediately following. Like injurys, hate heals with time. Also see Nuvendi's post just above yours.

This is a good point.  Imagine, if you will, if MS had launched the Xbox One two months after their disastrous unveiling.  Even if they had reversed their bad policies and the Xbone launched exactly as it later did, the launch would have been an absolute bloodbath vs the PS4 cause people would still be livid, they would have next to no time to spin anything, and no time to repair their brand or do damage control.  It would have been worse, not better.  Cause bad news spreads like wildfire and anger lingers short term and only really cools with time.  Announcing a good ways ahead of time is better for controlling negativity since you have a long while to spin and do damage control.

This!

New year press con, & hopefully a super bowl ad in February, is nice momentum before launch in MAR.

Yeah, I know that. I said that right at the beginning of my post.

It's good we have a date but why would they give MS and Sony and free pass for Christmas. Why not show it off in December and get people pre ordering then. Might get some consumers choosing it over a ps4/X1/psvr purchase instead.

Um they did release information now in October. Are you trying to pretend they didn't, is that why you're still calling it the NX?

2 months seems like plenty of time to me and Nintendo must think so aswell. Sony doing something else doesn't mean that's the only way to do it.

Well it wasn't much info, let's be fair.  Even though it did accomplish getting quite a good reception and has reserved Nintendo a bit of mindshare ahead of the main event.

And even though I don't agree with the idea they are doing this to minimize negativity (as I just said, this is a bad plan for that), I won't defend the short span completely.  Yes it has advantages - namely that they can keep the hype at a fever pitch from announcement to launch if they play it right - but there are plenty of past precedents to show properly handled early announcements are very succesful, just look at the PS4 and Nintendo's own Wii.

My guess is this is more down to the games lineup situation, namely third and second parties.  With the Wii U, Nintendo went out on a limb in 2011 and early 2012, boasting of partnerships they actually didn't have locked down at all based on what we now know (evidence now suggests early 2011 was when they *started* negotiating those partnerships, which is mental).  And then that all backfired, perhaps the EA and Nintendo "unprecedented partnership" being the most famous implosion.  So I think it is entirely possible Nintendo wanted to make dead certain that they had these 3rd and 2nd parties as locked in as possible, not to mention having actual games from them to show running on the actual end product with actual release dates.  Wouldn't be the first time Nintendo over-compensated :P

I'd be good with that reasoning, but I honestly hope Nintendo isn't bending backwards for the unreliable third partys. Even despite seeing third party games running on NX and that big list of developers, I won't believe Nintendo truely has their support until a year later and they're still there.

Why compete for advertisement time with two bigger companies? They'll get January-March all for themselves. In the mean time they can focus on Super Mario Run, NES Mini Classic and Pokémon Sun & Moon. These will be their three pillars for the holiday season. In addition to that they're also releasing special amiibo to celebrate The Legend of Zelda's 30th anniversary.

Pokémon Sun & Moon should boost the hardware sales of the 3DS while the Wii U will be ignored and left to falter. All in all I think Nintendo will be able to rake in quite a bit of money without releasing many games.
