GameStop now accepts 'retro' games, systems, and peripherals at all store locations.

GameStop sent out a Tweet proclaiming that you can trade in a number of "retro" systems, games, and peripherals at any store location (via IGN).

The company released a graphic along with the announcement to state which consoles—and their respective libraries—can be traded for credit or cash. Most of the heavy hitters are there, but second-stringers like Intellivision, as well as relics like Atari VCS/2600, didn't make the cut.

GameStop's decision to take in-store trade-ins represents a widening of its focus on retro merchandise. In 2015, the company announced that it would stock old games and hardware on its website—a decision likely made to cater to the growing number of collectors interested in completing console libraries.

Going back to its roots by stocking oldies-but-goodies in its stores gives GameStop another direct line to collectors, though it remains to be seen how their prices compare to local dealers.

Really?  24 hours must be a long time for you millennials.

Given the size of most Gamestops where are they going to fit all these games? Is there just going to be a loose bin of "retro games" all mixed up?

Be curious what they offer for old games, but I can't imagine be much outside a few rare titles.

All the "gamestops" here pretty much turned into pop toy stores. They literally threw all games into bins and have a small release wall for each console now. Not sure how this is going to fit. On another note, one ebgames was trying to sell a used Battletoads for 300 bucks....

This is one of the most recent business tactics they've tried to diversify their product line by offering "memorabilias."

I know.  Everything EB sells that aren't games have huge margins.  They make way more from a pop than they ever would from a game.  I'm just guessing their used sales business has been collapsing.

Collecting them so they can mark them up really high, no doubt..

The video game industry is a 30+ billion dollar industry, a video games store should not be in such dire straits

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

People are going digital and there are just so many other choices to shop from. I buy games like crazy but I just realized that I hadn't set foot in GameStop since February--and that was just for a PSVR. I may never go there, again. It's just easier to order of download.
