Forums - Gaming - Sonic Utopia - A Fan Made Classic-Styled 3D Sonic Game

So I was dabbling through YouTube and I happened to stumble across this thing. Needless to say, I loved what I saw and felt like sharing it and spreading it.
And let me just say, that is the most beautiful rendition of Green Hill Zone I have ever heard!

Nice fan project. I like how expansive it is. Sonic is the kind of character that could really use the elbow room. A concept like this can probably take off with enough polish.

That was pretty darn impressive for an early demo.

Yeah, with a video game character that goes as fast as Sonic, control is usually an issue, to have more control, you sacrifice speed, as in the case of the Adventure games, and to get more speed, you sacrifice more control to the extent where it feels like you're watching the game rather than play it, as is the case with the Modern Sonic games, Unleashed in Particular. So to really have great speed and not worry so much about control, you need to make a lot of room with level design.

I love it. Would pay for that.

Very interesting. Sad thing is, as a natural progression of how Sonic should have gone from 2D to 3D this is far better than Sega's own sonic games where it's mostly a massive blur while collecting rings. Early Sonic games were never really about going fast, they had those moments of Sonic running but generally was a platformer, this looks like a platformer.

Hmm, pie.

Sonic 3D Blast, WITHOUT the isometric camera! AKA what Sonic 3D Blast should have been!

I think the Adventure games had that down to a certain extent, but it was focused more on storytelling, differing gameplay styles (Treasure Hunting and Mech Shooting), and trying to fit the mold of cinematic movie-like elements of 3D gaming, rather than bring to the 3rd Dimension, all the things that made Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog.

i watched it but fail to see the hype that its getting

It's basically a classic, SEGA Genesis styled 2D Sonic, brought right into 3D, something that we shockingly have never had for Sonc the Hedgehog.
