Forums - Sony Discussion - CNET: How the PS4 Pro made me a believer

It's the 4k capable gaming PC vs. PS4P in 4k display mode that closed the argument for me.

If you can't tell the difference, you're either deceiving yourself, or chasing a fool's argument.

you cant see the difference on a TV if you are 2 or 3 meters away

And with a $400 game console, some of those games did something even my $1,000+ PC still struggles to do: run beautifully on a 4K television.

- can afford a 4k TV

- can't afford a 4k-capable PC

gg.

Games already look so pretty at 1080p on my IPS display, i'm not spending a cent on any new screen until 4k tvs are as cheap as a Vita/3DS. Personally i'd rather spend +1000 dollars on +20 new games and support game makers than see them struggle to make games, close doors, etc, so I can afford to see worse games on a better display..

you allready can buy 400€ 4K displays from Hisense and around 200€ more gives you HDR

If you can't tell the difference, you're either deceiving yourself, or chasing a fool's argument.

Digital Foundry about Days Gone:

I observed the pixel structure on a 65-inch Sony 4K display from just two feet away, and then I moved closer. It looked good, seriously good. There is a slight softness compared to the pin-sharp precision of a native 4K presentation, but even close-up, the effect works well - in a living room environment, it should work just fine.

If you think you can discern pixels better than DF, then there's nothing else to add. Other than maybe this from the video you linked:

"Even if it is no native 4K, it does not need to be to show a big increase in picture quality over 1080p". So, my guess is that if someone says they can spot the difference in a living then they'd be deceiving themselves.

At normal living room distances, sure. I said that.

One would be deceiving themselves if they said they could distinguish the difference between a 40" 1080p display and a 40" 4K display at a distance of about maybe 15 feet with normal 20/20 vision.

The argument being pressed is that there is no difference to which I disagree.

Just take a look at a native 4k PC playing the same game side by side with a PS4P in 4K mode if and when you ever get the chance and you will retract your assertion that no one can tell the difference.

That, I will agree with although 2 meters may be pushing the limit of distance by which the softness can be lost upon 20/20 vision.

And while I realize no amount of reason will convince some who just want to chase a dead argument, ask yourself at what distance from their display does the typical PC gamer sit?

9 out of ten times, it's arm's reach; less than 3 feet away. Believe me; they can tell the difference.

The argument that only you are making. The discussion is that on the test they done checkerboard versus native was hard to differentiate, not impossible. So you are arguing a point no one made.
