Forums - Nintendo - Local multiplayer on Nintendo Switch

Well, seems that now we have more options, like playing 8 players local multiplayer splatoon. But you need 8 Nintendo switches to do so!

But in the trailer, we can see 2 players playing on a single Switch: mario 3D, NBA, mario kart.

But for 4 local multiplayers in NBA, we need 2 Switches!!!

So, Im wandering. The maximum local multiplayer per console would be 2?Was it designed with 2 detachable controlers because of that? Is Ninty planning to sell more Switches for those who want a 8 player local multiplayer like in smash?

Would it accept wii and wii U controllers for arbitrary(9, like in wii U runbow) multiplayer number of players? Would wii and wii U controllers accepter only on the dock?(GC controller adapter included)...

One of the things I like on wii U is the local multiplayer with so many options. I wouldnt like to lose that on Switch.

Well, normally if you played local multiplayer on a handheld, you need on system per person anyways..

The docking mode, will no doubt have an online mode so you wouldn't have to worry about that..

Docking mode is the best for multiplayer, each player with one of those little controllers seems very uncomfortable.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Why can't multiple people use a controller in console mode?

I mean you can use the single controller sideways in portable mode. It just looks uncomfortable and inefficient. I wouldn't want to do it personally.

I imagine Switch, when docked, supports the same local mp options as WiiU. On the go, it probably defaults to two people per system -- an upgrade over download play, which requires at least two pieces of hardware.

Probably on console mode it will play as it usualy does.Everyone get one control and share the TV.The one you describe is just for the portable mode, most likely

Oh my god!

This reminded me an dmy friends in highschool. I brought my Wii U to school and the room that we were allowed to go during break time didn't have an HDMI port on the projector. So we played 8 player smash using the Wii U gamepad as a screen XD LMAO we actually had fun!

I sincerely hope that is not true, I don't see why it wouldn't support 4 player local.

Also needing seperate consoles isn't really "local multiplayer" :P

I'm thinking they are thinking on the space. It gets crowded with just two for one small screen. (It also help in i/o reaction.)

As for at home. I'm guessing they didn't have time to show that since they want to showcase the "gimmick". But I'm guessing you will be able to 4-p multiplayer on the home side.

Yeah as long as it has 4 player local on TV that's fine, though I don't expect it will be any more limited when out and about.
