Wow this is perhaps the worst looking controller I've ever seen! xD

Thank goodness you have other control options, buying the dedicated (pro controller?) is gonna be a must for using on a tv!

less than an hour, rockstar is going to confirm the game today. |
Rockstar isn't on the partner list so don't expect a NX version.
oh there's T2, i dunno then

The WiiU and Ouya were for people too. It's a handheld but it's certainly not easily portable. And esport machine? No chance. I'm just discussing where Nintendo is going with this thing. You being hyped for it doesn't mean people can't question the usefulness of the device. |
it's for people that play video games and want this product, Pokemon games a lot means better sales than the wii u.
I think it looks amazing. Really loved the modularity, looks practical. The name is a bit awful. Anyway, I'm 110% buying this.
Just taking half of my console to keep playing, without stopping looked incredible. They tablet can also stay up on its own and you can grab the controllers and play like a mini console. Incredible. It's a really, really inspired design that will win some prizes.
I'm kinda worried about some things:
- Looks expensive. A big high res screen and a seemingly powerful SoC. I fear that if this is US$ 300 or more Nintendo may screw up with their handheld market, since the 250 bucks 3Ds failed big time until they cut the price to 180. I'm not that confident that this can be sold for 200, even if it's just the tablet thing. This thing should be cheap enough to work as a secondary console. A lot of people already have PS4s or X1s and they won't change platforms after just 3 years.
- I don't know, but the framerate of Zelda on the portable device looked low, like 20 something. It may be some mistake when doing the video, but I got worried here.
- Name is terribad. NX would be better. I also think it can lead to jokes like "Switch made me switch to PS4/X1". Minor problem, tough.

Because a local area wireless protocol would suck. I'm hoping for the dock to run the games, not the handeld (potentially more horsepower). |
Not happending, its too costly to do things that way.
The benefits of keeping things in 1 system, instead of makeing 2 that work together is too big.
Plus look at the size of the docking station. Seriously doubt theres anything in there that gives it more horsepower.
Its just a strong tablet, and thats it.
When it docks it doesnt have to worry about power usage, so it runs faster.
But its all running on that chip inside the tablet.
If the Switch on the mobile form is as powerful as an XOne or close to it, then this will be a very powerful console.I mean, it looks like it rans Mario Kart 8 at the very least. So as a handheld its going to be excellent. As a home console, we need to learn more
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

100% there wont be a successor to the 3DS. This is it, the Nintendo Switch is both a replacement for the 3DS + Wii U. |
That's great for consumers then. Finally I'll be able to play the great Nintendo handheld exclusives with only half the eye cancer.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
Just for those who may have missed it, the Skyrim they showed was Skyrim Remastered. Now, given the facts we know of that version's features as well as the fact Bethesda sucks terribly at optimization (love ya BGS but you got a long way to go yet), I think it's a pretty safe assumption this is markedly more powerful than the Wii U. At the weakest it is within striking distance of the One, enough to make solid ports possible without excessive work.
And yes, I am positive that was Skyrim Remastered. Modded and played that game for thousands of hours and that was not the atrocious lighting of Skyrim vanilla :P
As a device, I like it. It really is a home console that is portable, rather than an uncomfortable attempt to cram home console into a handheld. Success of this is going to rely HEAVILY on marketing though, communicating the unique advantages while emphasizing it has plenty of traditional capabilities. As for the early lineup, Breath of the Wild looks good as usual, Splatoon is getting a sequel, and a new Mario. For 3 minutes...shoot I'll take that.
