More functionality is always appreciated, hopefully this means I won't have to use 3rd party tools to get the DS4 working with some games?

Oh... I dunno about that. Xbox 360 and Xbox One are common controllers on the PC for many years and have superior triggers. PS4 triggers just feel awkward in comparison.
But still good news for people who prefer PS4 controllers or simply have them.

I'm assuming they will allow mapping touchpad gestures to key combos, e.g. left/right cycling thru inventory etc...
But like internet browsers which support the same feature/standard, the more support there is for a feature (touchpad/gyro),
the more games will be designed to work specifically with that feature. The Steam controller already supported touchpad/gyro,
but this move means both features will be available via the same API for devs, which makes it function as a single standard.

I love using my DS4 on PC, but what bugs me is lack of these features, some games not working at all without DS4 Windows program, some are working without it (GTA V for example) but this one doesn't show DS4 buttons, some games like like Far Cry 4, Rocket League, Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight etc. do show DS4 buttons so that's nice. Looking forward to more Dualshock 4 support on PC. |
Some consistency would be apreciated indeed. Press B to cancel, ehm? I spend more time figuring out what was wrong with Dr Langskov, The Tiger etc than the game lasts. It would immediately turn vertical and start spinning on startup. Eventually I figured out that the game mapped turning to the DS4 left trigger and vertical rotation to the right trigger. Hold the left trigger exactly half way to stop the spinning.
Hopefully it will also have deadzone control. In some platformers I end up crouching/ducking if I don't hold the analog stick exactly horizontal. Anyway things have already improved immensely since windows 7 and motioninjoy, ugh. I was very surprised 2 ds4 connected worked flawlessly in splitscreen lego worlds.
Thats actually great news!
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Wait so, before DS4, PC never had any decent worthwhile gamepads?.
I am really confused here, because for the past 5 yearsa nd more, I've been able to use and been happy with my 360 gamepad, then my PC version as well to boot.
I'm also wanting to go with a Steam gamepad at some point as well, though I don't really see that gamepad as not being "decent".

Most people when they use controllers on pc have one of those cheap logitech type ones.
Dual Shock 4 is a million times better than one of those. That was basically what I ment, its good for people that own a DS4.

Or for people who game on PC occasionally but haven't bought a dedicated PC controller. |
Did you also happen to own a PS console at the time as well?, that would help falling into such a catagory, especially for one who owns a 360 fully wired gamepad like myself from my 360 days and was able to use it on PC.

Where is all this data to support a majority use on PC for logitec gamepads, especially the cheap tacky ones you suggest?.
We still have X1, 360 gamepads as well as the official Steam one and many others that work on PS4 as well. There have been decent gamepads before the DS4.

I´m very happy about this. Hopefully more devs support the steam controller api so I don´t have to fiddle with ds4 prompts mods ever again. I love the DS4.
