Forums - Gaming - TV TV & TV Dominates Video Game Console Use

Prove me wrong. Please!!

+40 million PS4's out there, equals +40 million possible netflix subcribers on a console. Could Netflix be the most used App with more users than the most popular game on the PS4/Xbox One?

http://www.statisticbrain.com/netflix-statistics/  (Date research was conducted: April 3, 2016)

"Total number of Netflix viewers who watch live stream via video game console, 50%"

"Total number of Netflix subscribers, 81,500,000"

That 50% comes from the combine total of Wii, Wii U, Xbox360, XboxOne, PS3, and PS4. Even if we divide the 40 million PS4 by 6, that still leaves you with about 666,000 user installs, and that's 666,000 active and paying Netflix users. Is there any game that has 666,000 active users on consoles and doesn't dip after a couple months?

So while you're playing a game, there are possibly 3 or more people watching something on Netflix on a console at the same time.

This can't be real..

Well yeah...if I want to watch a show, I can use Netflix, if I want to watch a movie, I can use Netflix, if I want some background noise while I do homework or clean up, I can use Netflix.

Netflix is passive, games are active. Netflix is one app as opposed to the thousand plus games someone may be playing at any given time, so obviously it's active users will be higher than any one game.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Holy Shit, Don Matrick was right!

Well we already know game consoles are popular streaming video devices. They have countless apps offering that kind of content.

Frankly, I think we all know some people that use their game consoles almost entirely for streaming video.

Indeed, while people mocked MS for putting focus on TV its actually crucial feature on consoles. I don't think a console can succeed in this era without that stuff. The PS TV for example is a joke for lacking that content.

Where MS fucked up was that Kinect and $499 thing...

Yes! All this time I've been saying, "Games sell consoles"

I was wrong... OMG

I must admit I stream video on my gaming devices more than I play games. I can fold laundry, clean up, ect while streaming. As someone else pointed out playing games is active and that's all I get done when actually gaming.

TV is a convenience that can be met with dozens of other products. That's why the gaming portion of a home console is the most important.

When someone buys a Jeep, they might spend far more hours on the highway than off-road but the reason they bought a Jeep in the first place is because of the off-road capacity. Otherwise they could have simply bought a normal car.

That is an excellent analogy.
