It doesn't have 4k blu-ray because Sony has no faith in the future of their own format. See how simple that was? No need for videos to explain it.

Making up numbers is fun, kids!
Seriously, figures like $25 difference just aren't supportable.  Some have pegged it at $15 I believe,
although IMHO it can very well be much less, more like <$5, especially if codec/copyprotection licencing is not covered.
(Sony could make the UHD-BD player software a purchasable down-load, so only those interested need to pay licence fee)

Except Im not makeing them up.

Watch the video I linked. Michael pachter says them in the video (he either made them up, or knows them).

Hes talked directly to sony about this very issue. 

Thats why I mentioned the 10% of market has 4k, and only a few % of those 10%, use their 4k blu-ray drives.

Sony isnt forceing the cost of the 4k blu-ray drive onto consumers, that wont be useing it.

Its done to save money, and allow the PS4pro to have the price point it does.

People should look at the history of Sony and what they've done with 4K TVs.

I rented a bluray the other day (first in quite awhile) and before it started it told me digital video was the future and detailed all the better things I'd be getting if only I had rented that very same movie from one of many digital bluray store fronts: pretty much all of which I have access to.

Even the disc they make and sell/rent to us explain every entertainment company's plan.

A "Super Mario Galaxy 3" would easily remedy that and more imo :p

You know there are people that some PC defenders use the "you can also use to enter facebook, excell, word" as reasons why gaming PC isn't more expensive than console gaming... also there are some guys that do dual Titan X and end up playing indies or emulators.

This is through and through a business decision, whether it's because of a partnership with Netflix, because they don't want to cannibalize their incoming luxury UHD player, or because the market is moving toward digital faster than UHD is being adopted. Has nothing to do with faith, they've already proven themselves on that aspect.

 

I suppose it could also be because of console parity between the new slim/pro and OG but idk about that

You know who also makes money from people buying games for their console? Sony. So insisting that Sony would intentially make PS4 less desirable just to sell something that makes them way way waaay less money is ridiculous and shows that some people don't know how to business.

It's like saying that Microsoft kills Xbox music capabilities so people buy more Zunes.

Sony and Microsoft have been known to make bone-headed moves in the past.
