Forums - Gaming - I've decided to never buy games at MSRP from now on, just play Pokémon Go and get free scraps from PSN and XBL

Yes, I think I'm just going to wise up now and not join anymore hype trains. I usually get sucked into those hype trains and get them AAA games on day 1. Simply put, I have no time anymore to play these games for long periods of times. Pokémon Go has taken up most of my free time before and after work. Once I get home, I shower, eat dinner, fap one out and then lay in bed and play Forza Horizon 3. Forza Horizon 3 is like sex before bed. That will probably be my last game at full price for a long time.

I download so many things. I don't even play them. Every week I check the sales on XBL and PSN, then buy the cheap games I don't have.  Check for any new BC games and download the ones I own. Download any free membership games. I even buy crap games  from the weekly deals that are the price of a candy bar from a vending machine. Just because they have Achievements and Trophies. Maybe in my dying days I will get to play them.

So, from now on, cheap digital games and free member games.

Here are some of the games that I bought day 1 and haven't even played:

  • Ryse
  • Killzone Shadow Fall
  • Infamous Second Son
  • Destiny (played the beta. Never opened retail game)
  • Halo 5
  • Uncharted 4
  • Overwatch
I'm also canceling PSVR and PS4 Pro. Not getting Gears 4 till cheap.

Dont cancel the PSVR! Put that sucker on Ebay at a good markup. People will be paying extra to get it for the holidays. I've seen news that it may take months for people to get their pre-orders.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

I can relate so much with this. Not those games in particular but I do have 60$ titles that have never been played, which sucks. And my backlog keeps growing. I might want to follow suit on this one :P

Its more a matter of self control than anything else.Do a good research before hand and have a limit of games you play at every moment. This way, you arent overwhelmed and have time to play each game you buy.And also it saves you money, since by the time you are ready with the games you bought, the games you want may be discounted.

Its a management issue.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

what is Pokemon GO?

That the game that blocks 80% of phones out there?

I joined this gen just last year. That way I had tons of games to buy and play for very little money.
Didn't buy a single game over 30€. Basically I'm a year late for every game that just released but that's okay.

Rise of the Tomb Raider, AC Syndicate, The Witcher 3, Just Cause 3, Forza 6 etc. all games I still have to buy and play and that's the reason why I don't have much desire to buy Deus Ex Mankind Divided or Doom just because they are new.

Other than that there are STILL games I bought and never or barely played. but spending ~20€ for an unplayed game is better than spending 60€.

Can relate. Can't always find the time to play.

Day 1 is rough unless you know for sure it's something you love.

Normally I reserve day 1 purchases for anything Zelda or Mario because I know I'll be playing them a ton.
But I've made some rough choices on other games that never got touched, and dropped to about $15 a few months later :(

Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. If you're not planning on playing the games you buy, why buy them? There's also a matter if YOU want to play them. I decide on my own if I'm interested in a game or not, and not really rely on anyone else's opinion, unless I really trust the person and it gets my interest.
