Forums - General - Do you buy a product that was made in your country or made by a company that is from your country?

Best quality and best price is what I look for

so no, if it's more expensive and not as well made (which usually is the case)

Only when it comes to produce. Best quality otherwise. Products should freely be able to move across borders for a healthy import and export business. I just think it's wasteful to truck food all over the world.

You can't claim that of a publicly traded company and since April a new company was formed by Sony that PlayStation belongs to and that company is based in the US.

No, I just buy things that appeal to me. I couldn't care less where they come from

Absolutely not. A crutch like that is harmful when it comes to improvement. Being rewarded for second or third place is a good way to instill mediocrity.

If I buy an inferior product because of a sense of duty then I'm sending the message that businesses in my country don't need to try harder because I'll purchase their junk anyway. That's not good for me and it's not good for my country.

Besides that, it would be kind of naive in a world of multi-nationals, anyway. More and more companies are "from" wherever saves them the most in taxes.

Also, which is more American, a Ford made in Mexico or a Toyota made in Texas?

The car that has the most USA parts in it that is built in USA.... Toyota Camry.

I do shun companies that move their HQs out of USA (although I currently am working for a company that did that in the 90s).

I buy things that i want, couldn't care less where its made.

My cars are generally European or Japanese, most my clothes is probably made in Indonesia, my technology is generally made in China and I live in America. If you don't take advantage of the free market then what is the point of living here?

You only live once, got the best you can afford. Let the companies battle to offer the best product, not be a puppet in thei hands, whatever the reason is.

For example in the last 6 months i got a new phone, i decided to pick up a Xiaomi, price/quality never seen. I don't care if it's chinese, i spent less than expected and i could invest the rest of the money in something else.
