Absolutely not. A crutch like that is harmful when it comes to improvement. Being rewarded for second or third place is a good way to instill mediocrity.
If I buy an inferior product because of a sense of duty then I'm sending the message that businesses in my country don't need to try harder because I'll purchase their junk anyway. That's not good for me and it's not good for my country.
Besides that, it would be kind of naive in a world of multi-nationals, anyway. More and more companies are "from" wherever saves them the most in taxes.
Also, which is more American, a Ford made in Mexico or a Toyota made in Texas?
