Forums - Sony - PS4Pro Has A GPU Feature That Improves PSVR

Not really equivalent.  At all.  Where is anybody saying this "secret sauce" will somehow change any power equation?
They're not.  They're not worried about Pro power vs. any current competitor, and nobody is saying this beats Scorpio etc.
They're just genuinely curious about what this rumored feature does.   Why wouldn't they be?

Exactly. This isn't 'hopes and dreams' this is just curiosity. I suppose this guy could be lying but even if he is, who the hell cares? PSVR is a capable device on just your bog standard PS4 anyway so I'm sure, even without this, it will be much better on the PS4pro.

I'm sorry but Sony already confirmed that PS4 Pro will offer PSVR devs to improve performance. (resolution, fps, etc). I see no difference in vague unconfirmed statement with no tech reference.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Mark Cerny did say that he had some custom features included in the new GPU

That's fucking awesome. I love a bit of secret sauce!

And ps4 pro will be the ultimate platform for VR gaming too.  Very hyped about this.

Sure i could see that... If the Vive wasnt around.

Pretty much every preview and hands on has stated how the Vive is the ultimate VR platform.

Yeah but I'm factoring in price aswell.

Its 800 or 900 euro for me to buy a PS4Pro+VR maybe 1000 if you add in 1 or 2 games.

For me to buy the vive is like 800 euro. So for me it would be cheaper to get the Vive.

And even if your already a PS4 owner if you want the ultimate Playstation vr platform they still need to buy a PS4Pro and a PSVR so its still costing them 800 or 900 euro.

Sure they can use their original ps4 but then a PC user can also use a cheap PC and cheap VR headset if they wish also.

However i guess if you dont already own a PC the PS4Pro+PSVR would be the cheapest option to get into VR but it still doesnt make it the ultimate vr platform.

You're saying that Vive is the ultimate platform, even factoring in price, but then you throw in the idea that people with low spec'd PCs can just get some cheap ass PC VR headset and make do. But of course that does not support your thesis that Vive is the ultimate platform.

Assuming PS4og provides a sufficient VR experience so that you won't get headaches or epilepsy from moderate use, and it will be visually satisfactory, I think you have to factor in reasonable sales potential for people who will continue to use PS4og, and what makes PSVR potentially the ultimate platform is the suite of software for it (which is unknown at present), which is all about the growth in the user base. And price of entry for currrent PS4 owners does really give PSVR the best chance of achieving sustained growth in the user base in order to attract the most software.

But I remain unconvinced that VR is going to be a thing for a while yet. Perhaps if prices can be brought down quickly and price of entry for the headset at least gets into the $100 - $150 area we could start seeing something close to a mass market adoption of the tech. I still reckon it's strongest potential is in the arena entertainment type sector (like laser tag).

Less compare apples with apples.  Your average consumer who doesn't have a high end pc or Vive or psvr or ps4 pro is better off going with psvr.

Much cheaper. And if they're doing it for games psvr has a really good amount of VR titles coming. Fair play to Sony making it really affordable because it works well with a regular ps4 too.  So much more appealing to your average consumer than building a high end pc then forking out another fortune on the pc.

The role reversal keeps going this gen, ps4 secret sauce!

Well, one thing you can hang your hat on, there sure as heck isn't going to be a sales reversal.

The GPU is two and a half time more powerful and more recent, so that isn't shocking at all. Although I doubt vanilla PS4 is able to run more ambitious VR games properly.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

That is obvious considering it was a semi-custom chip.

PS4 pro day 1 patch will also increase clock speed to 5.5tf!

Forgive me due to lack of technology and internet due to weather knocking out all technology in my state for several days... Do you have a reliable source with that information?

And since when have we degraded to the point of using flops as a measurement for clockspeed? Like seriously?
Extrapolate the real clocks. It's not hard. It's Shaders * 2 * Clockrate. Go.

He's joking but could you expand on your last point, please?
