Forums - Gaming - Phil Spencer Says Microsoft Is Not Converting Xbox One Owners To PC

I'm not worried of Microsoft trying to turn XBox gamers into PC gamers, but the other way around. The way they tried to create a more closed environement with W10 and all of the talks of pushing more for PC gaming while still keeping services like XBox Live alive (in particular, fee to play online in consoles) might just create an environement with the disadvantages of both PC and console.

The general idea of merging Xbox and Windows along with tablets and the like into their UWP, is just that. They are aiming for a single number count, where they get the bigger number under one banner. It makes sense for them to take full control of PC gaming and lock it down towards creating a console like enviroment where they are in control and you are limited as to what you can do, who is supported etc.

I know it makes sense to Microsoft, but it is a really grimm possibility to gamers. For decades PC has been an open and free ecosystem, and trying to turn it into an Apple-like system would basically crash a lot of the activity currently there (mods gone, user-made patches gone, resurrecting unsupported games gone, push other storefronts by controlling the OS, sharing games that aren't sold anymore would be forbidden...). And once Microsoft succeeds in turning the PC market into a console-like environement, who's to say they won't force XBox Live and charge for the multiplayer?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Chances are, if you currently got an Xbox One, you got it for the low. So, yeah, I don't see that type of gamer investing in a decent gaming PC any time soon. So that's kind of a given.

I own many consoles, from the atari, nes, original gameboy all the way up to this generations psvita, 3ds, wiiu and ps4. This would have been the year to buy a Xbox One for me, gears and forza horizon 3 (i got the second on my 360) would have swayed me.

However I decided to buy the PC versions digitally. They deffenitely lost a sale on me but I am still interested in the Scorpio next year :)

They just won a bigger margin of profit from you from ordering digitally, without possibly incurring a loss on subsidized hardware.

He's absolutely right. Sadly they also don't do anything to interest PC gamers in Xbox either. Or maybe I should be saying luckily because they're the only ones who are nice enough to port their exclusives to PC.

I feel like the only thing MS could do to make X1 appeal to PC gamers is allow it to play PC games.

I don't mean ports either, make it literally run PC apps. I think its a route MS may go via curated PC apps. If the X1 can emulate impressive looking 360 games with their online features, why not run popular PC games like League of Legends, DOTA, Civilization, World of Warcraft. It has the power to do it and usb ports.

Who wouldn't take a free copy of a game for PC that they buy on Xbone?

Babies!

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Alot of people forget why Xbox exists on the market in the first place. Its to keep DX alive and the UWP is there to create a bigger gaming community for all there games. Sadly all people seem to care about is hardware sales alone. Xbox doesnt have to outsell PS. Its there for those who prefer not to game on PC which theres alot out there. Heck im a PC gamer yet brought Horizon 3 on Xbox 1 mainly due to the HDR feature. The point is where people say they lose sales they end up gaining sales. If PC was going to defeat the purpose of Xbox that would have happebed with the original Xbox. 10+ years later Xbox is still here selling well.

I hate gaming on PC. I can't stand the online community on PC games. That is the main reason why I prefer consoles.

Why would he feel the need to say that?

Because he was asked?

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Microsoft is behind Scorpio and Windows. They don't care either way, probably.
