And for anyone wondering the Wii U launched 15 months ahead of the ps4 and it's getting passed out this month.

The ps4 is also matching the ps3 sales launch aligned. In a market where the xbox 1 and Wii U collapsed on it's predecessors the ps4 is doing remarkably well!

Not really.

The xbox One is a disaster in Japan, the WiiU is poor and the PS4 is not good.  The PS3 was bad for a playstation console so the PS4 "matching" that is not performing "remarkably well".

No home console is going to perform as well as the PS2 ever again. That's a pipe dream. The console market has shrunken in that regard since gaming has splintered since then. This is about what's to be expected.

Now say if the NX was a hit, I'm not sure if you can classify that as handheld or console though.

Launch alligned, I'm sure it has outsold WiiU, which has been out for 14 months longer in Japan. Though even counting that head start, another week like this would put PS4 past it. That said, this looks be the worst selling Xbox and Nintendo console in Japan as well. And I think the drop off from the previous consoles is bigger for Microsoft and Nintendo as well.

PS4 has sold ~29,4% of what PS3 sold.
WiiU has sold ~25,3% of what Wii sold.
XBO has sold ~4% of what X360 sold.

That's a massive drop for Xbox, and while both it and WiiU have no future in Japan from here on out, PS4 will keep selling for some years to come.

The Japanese market extends beyond Japan. Which is why Japanese publishers refrain from putting some titles on Xbox even outside Japan, like the Persona series. Japanese games is part of Playstation's appeal worldwide. If Microsoft give up on Japan completely, the disparity in Japanese titles between Playstation and Xbox will only become worse.

Anyway, what Kerotan's numbers illustrate is not just that PS4 outsells XBO, but how poorly XBO is doing. Even compared to its predecessor. It has only sold 4% of what X360 has in Japan so far.

Thats fair enough. However look at it this way. Japanese games arent the be all and end all of gaming. Most XBox owners dont play Persona. Its a different culture of games for a different culture of people. Sure Japanese games sell outside of Japan but on Xbox the main focus is more on western games. On Steam i have many Japanese games avialble to me yet i dont even bother with them because there not for me. Losing Japanese games isnt a loss for MS. There audience doesnt care either (Except afew expectations). For Sony and Nintendo its a different story.

The XB1 is still going to be on the market for another couple years. The 360 still didnt need Japan to be successful.

Still, having a choice never was bad. So the argument that xbox doesn't need Japanese games at all is irrelevant

Obviously.  But I dont think the PS4 will even outsell the PS3.  I'd like to see the relative performance thus far in a graph format.

My point was it isn't a remarkable performance, not even close.  The competition fucking up and gifting a relatively decent performance means nothing.

I doubt Microsoft's stumbles would have affected PS4's sales in Japan anyway. It's not like it's historically really been competition there. PS4 still has yet to see the biggest games for it arrive on the console. They actually have a DQ game coming for it as opposed to last gen, so that should work in its favor some.

Is this really news? We all know Xbox is a niche in Japan lol.

It doesnt have to be a choice nore does it need to be. Xbox isnt focused around the Japanese audience and its no loss for many who dont play Japanese games. I have a choice and i still dont care. If they took all the Japanese games off Steam i wouldnt even notice. Only Japanese games i play are NIntendo ones which requires an Nintendo system.

Its nice to have a record on how well these consoles do in different countries, however it has no baring on majority of the gaming world or affects Gaming in any way. Unless your Japanese with an XB1.

The sad part is it actually is sold there and it's 2 predecessors did respectable numbers.

Thats my point. Its practically none existed in Japan. Everything would be outselling the X1 in Japan. Just like US cars dont sell well in Japan either. Thank god Japan is only a small market share.

As for the original Xbox and 360. They didnt sell well either in Japan and they turned out to be successful consoles.

If i were MS ill just stop caring for the Japanese market all together and chase the bigger fish in the sea. Cant convince a culture to buy American products it just doesn't happen unless its iPhone. Im not even American and im saying this haha.

Lol, selling 1 Million+ in a country isn't good enought ? And, did you know that Japan is by far the second biggest market for consoles even with a drop every year ? It would still take some years for Germany to surpass it.  Germany already is nearly 80% Playstation. The actual Japan is, for home console) 49.% Playstation 50.9% Nintendo and 0.1% Xbox.

Microsoft don't has any other "bigger market" than Japan to  go, They don't sell well on Europe. The biggest markets after the China, that is mainly PC, are USA  Japan, Korea, Germany, UK, France,  Spain, Canada and Italy. Only 1 north American country, and some asian countries, but majority from the Europe. Microsoft don't try to appeal for that market, Playstation always did. This is the reason why there is such difference  of market share.

I don't know if you know, but Capcom, Konami, Square Enix, Sega, Bandai, From Software are Japanese companies. I think that you don't like RPG, but it is impossible to not like any of the games of any of those companies since they make games for nearly every single genre. Unless you  only like 1 genre.

Most of Asia (not just japan):

Wasn't Xbox One the first console to ever ship to China if I'm not mistaken. I remember reading something like this

Every console was made on China. After the end of the law against consoles, wasn't that hard to launch consoles there. Both Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have their consoles on China.

Did they even promote the console there? :S
They should have worked with Mistwalker on a new Blue Dragon game :/

I think that the only Japanese game avaliable for the Xbox One on Japan was a timed exclusivity of a visual novel of Psyco Pass. It launched for the PS4/Vita 1 year later, but was the kind of timed exclusivity that seemed eternal. The game probably did not sold well  and they released on other systems.

Microsoft isn't popular on Japan, even some multiplataform games, like Over Watch, don't get a Japanese Dub version for the XBox One.

This is shocking information.
