I think there current franchises serve the needs of differing demographics quite well. The Wii series is roping in non gamers, you've got things like Zelda for the hardcore. I would say they need a new hardcore IP, something like a 21st century Zelda. Improve quality of existing IP's would be good.

Here are some possibilities from me (and other sources):
1) A Pokemon MMORPG (j/k; never gonna happen, nor will any game of that genre).
2) A game in which you play as a Pokemon (none of that Mystery Dungeon crap, but one in which you have to contend with trainers/coordinators that want to capture you; if they do, you continue as a Pokemon-in-training)
or 3) A Fighting game that doesn't suck or have the words "Super", "Smash", or "Brothers" in the title (I'm not saying that Brawl sucks, just every OTHER Fighting game on the Wii)

Anyhoos, Nintendo could probably get into a pissing contest with Microsoft and Sony by releasing a simulation racer but I wouldn't want them to go there. I think Nintendo should buy Treasure and create a vertical/horizontal shoot 'em up like Ikaruga and Einhander. They could even place it in the Star Fox universe if they wanted. A nice Civilization type game that lets you play as Bowser and his minions trying to take over the Mushroom Kingdom would be cool too.

Tag: Became a freaking mod and a complete douche, coincidentally, at the same time.

Buy polyphony and get them to make one. They have enough money but it would take them 4-5 years to make it so maybe not.

Perhaps they need a realistic game, all of their games are, for want of a better word, fantasy, so perhaps something realistic like Gran Turismo would be good. Prehaps their own James bond type game.
