Forums - Gaming - PSVR: Driveclub Is The Most Impressive VR Racer Yet

There are two types of people in the world: those who play racing games in cockpit view, and those who prefer a behind-the-car chase camera. I've always been firmly in the latter camp, since I tend to play arcade-style games like Outrun and Ridge Racer where judging the arc of a drift is important. But I do admire those who play racers from the first-person perspective, and sometimes wish I were able to enjoy the more immersive experience it affords.

Virtual reality might be what makes this happen for me. It's not like I want a chase cam when driving an actual car — spatial awareness and depth perception makes it easy to judge corners and surroundings in real life. And in VR, you get stereoscopic vision and the ability to look around yourself without even thinking about it. I've played a fair few driving games on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive at home, but my experience with Driveclub VR at Tokyo Game Show has been the best yet

Good news!

I thought I had little interest in VR but, as someone who plays in cockpit view, the main drawback is not being able to see anything to the sides. It makes a very real difference in how clean a race can objectively be. If VR nullifies that to a meaningful degree then ... interesting.

cockpit view always and forever... can't wait to play Dirt Rally in VR :)

I think it should work quite nicely. Personally would prefer to try it in a Gran Turismo style simulator rather than in Drive Club.

Whats the story with Driveclub VR? is it a free upgrade if you already own the game? or is it a standalone game?

It's a standalone game but the tracks in the VR game are going to be made available to Driveclub owners for free.

No, it's a standalone game with its own tracks. It's just that the tracks in the game will be made available to the none VR Drieclub owners. Rushy said it was their way of saying 'thank you' tp all the fans who supported them.
