Forums - General - Going Dark?

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/03/29/lights.out.ap/index.html

For those of you who haven't heard, today is one of those symbolic days (like not getting gas from a certain gas station or for a certain day) where everyoen becomes globally/environmentally conscious for a short period to make a statement.

We're all supposed to turn out our lights (all power?) from 8pm-9pm tonight.

Is anyone here going to take part?  Does it help?  Will it be fun?  And if you are going to do it, how will you spend this...our darkest hour.

I don't think my city is participating in this but I could give it a try. I don't have to turn off my computer do I?

That's what I was wondering too.  I think the implication is that you would...I'll have to see if I can cope...lol.

I don't want to know how much pollution this stops I want to know how much money is saved (cumulative).

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

We did it at my house. While I have my reservations about large symbolic gestures and what if any impact they have. We figured why not?

For my mom and I, it was lights out and card games by lamp light. It was fun.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I wanted to do it...but VGChartz said no.

a better idea would have been to use the media time spent on this to convince everyone that hasn't switched to switch to compact flourescents. I bought a five pack just over three years ago (I only have 5 light sockets/lamps at my place).  My power bill after making the switch went from $14 a month down to $9 + the power company paid the difference between the price of regular bulbs and the flourescents by me sending in the reciept. ( i can have all the lights in my apartment on for the same electricity as one old bulb being on).  + I haven't had to buy or replace any bulbs yet.
