MLB The Show is actually very profitable for Sony.

If its a small team, perhaps.

Its a licensed product and doesn't seem to sell great. I don't see a lot of licensed products thriving with sales like that.

It does quite good in the US. MLB 16 was 6th in the overall Software Charts during March NPD with only 5 days of tracking, and it April it came in 3rd after R&C and DS3, which both launched that month.

Must be a small budget. Because its basically the same game every year with tweaks here and there. The graphics are amazing

Baseball is a dying sport. The main audience is increasingly getting older because the sport doesn't connect with newer generations. It's also mainly only relevant in the US. I think it's selling for as much as it can. So I doubt the license is all that pricey because of all that.

Well its only relevant in the US and I'm looking at overall sales.

Its not doing great and has declined surprisingly fast on PS3 (compared to other sports), while Vita no longer gets a port.

You could be right. But between licensing and advertising, its hard to imagine its "very profitable." Look at UFC games for example, that's bi-annual with stronger sales and instead opts for roster updates.

As I also mentioned before the PS3 sales took a nosedive while the Vita is no longer supported.

I feel a company like EA or 2K would love to take it off their hands and put it on 3 or 4 platforms.

Not sure why that matters with how well it's performing on the PS4..

EA and 2K are free to make a deal with the MLB (Sony doesn't have an exclusivity deal). And 2K did in 2013 but it lead to a poor game with poor sales. They didn't renew the contract but they could if they wanted. There's just not enough potential for high sales.

Well that's the thing, its not doing amazing numbers on PS4. Certainly not nearly as well as other licensed sports games. As I mentioned before I don't see many IPs thriving with The Show's sales. The sales took a nosedive on PS3 so they can't rely on that for extra revenue.

Anywho, The Show is critically acclaimed but gets modest sales. I think a company like 2K or EA would like to take it over and put it on more platforms (PS4, X1, NX, PC, mobile). Frankly, I only suggest it because Sony has parted with some IP, the SOE content that evidently wasn't worthwhile.

even though sales numbers arnt high. Most people buy it at 60 bucks. A game like this the foundation is set,its a matter of tweaking it each year which equals low budget.. So sony makes profit each year

Both are pretty niche studios, those baseball games aren't doing big numbers.

I still think its possible The Show could change hands. I can think of two companies that would to have that IP.

Did someone not say it was San Diegos second team?  Not the MLB one.

That comment was made before clarification.

But I'm skeptical about the future of the studio. The Driveclub studio got the boot after releasing a multi million seller.
