Forums - Gaming - Sony downplays GTA4 extras, no one buying it

This whole debacle is friggin retarded. Was 50m worth the additional content? Hell fucking no! I mean I'm going to be honest with myself here.

I've played and owned GTA3, vice city, and San Andres, and I've never finished any of them. I'm a pretty avid gamer, and I've never finished one. Theres simply too much content ALREADY.

This game is very much purchased and geared towards a casual market, I can't count on two hands how many people I know who have picked this game up just to drive around and kill people >_>; Do you really think the casual player gives a rats ass about downloadable content?

Not everyone with a 360 even has it connected to high speed internet, or hell, even internet to begin with. What percentile of 360 owners have never even bothered trying would you say? Of the 3 friends I know with one (anictodal), one of them bought it for sports games to play for 30 minutes on his off time from working and school, it's nowhere near an ethernet cord.

How many 360's out there don't have hard drives? o.O; I mean seriously. These guys clearly aren't getting it. Core and Arcade users that haven't added one should immediately be factored out here.

The fact of the matter is that the extra content really only applies to the Die Hards or completionists, IF the content was on the PS3, I still wouldn't pick it up :/ I almost agree with the statement in spades.

Around the Network

If this turns out to be a new map, new missions and a new story element e.g. Niko's past, or building up one of the supporting characters, then I can see myself getting it even if I havent finished the whole game. When you guys talk about finishing the whole game, do you guys mean all the missions or just the main story arc? I would guess most people finish the main story at least right?

I am hoping this episodic content is something in the ilk of Half Life episodes, but I actually am starting to have a bad feeling it wont be. I would dread to think this will be the same standard as the recent Mass Effect DLC.

I don't even get that far :( I end up getting 75% into the game and feel more than accomplished already xD And part of the whole GTA experience is working for the different crime lords and seeing where their story progresses, I almost NEVER focus just on the main arc, I'm all in favor of the diversity that series offers :P

DLC > No DLC.

Microsoft buys a winning hand again.

you do realize both wil have DLC, M$ just bought 2 massive DLC packs.

Well obviously not. Now I do though.

More DLC > Less DLC.

Fixed.

DLC which costs more money sounds a lot like expansion pack to me. As any PC gamer knows there are a lot of expansion packs that are not worth the cash.

So Vice City and San Andreas were not worth the cash? They are generally viewed as expansions to GTA 3.

Dude, the DLC has been confirmed to be some extra missions, that is all.

The catch with expansion packs is that they require a ton of additional content to be worthy expansions and they get rated as such as they're often almost games within themselves. DLC is nowhere near the level of content you would expect to get with an expansion pack yet.  And even when it gets to that point, it's likely you'd be paying more for less...

We can already estimate the price of the DLC based on its length and the popularity of the game. Plus you need to pay tax and other nations will be paying more becasue the US always pays so little, so a price of 50-60 dollars is logical. You need XBL to play online which is about $50 in the US and upwarsds of 70-80 dollars in oher nations. Plus we have already been told that the length of the DLC will be about 10hours each, this has been posted on many different sites and maybe what R* said. We have all played the past GTA games so 100 hours is the norm, plus i'm pretty sure R* said it was atleast 80hours of gameplay.

So you're saying that:

- normal gameplay time is 100 hours

- the two DLCs together are 20 hours

- the DLC costs almost the same as the game.

Is that how you estimated it?

Yes thats how it will be, those are not my estimated hours for the DLC that was most likely given by R*, and no i don't have the link.  And the 80-100 hours is the standard for any GTA game.  The prices i gave are also standard for things over XBL.
