Forums - Sony - PS4 Pro’s inability to play 4K UHD discs is, no doubt, short-lived

BD-XL XD30-AGP1 the optical drive is a BDP-020 , BDP-025, BDP-010 reference Optical drive's KEM lasers. KES chipsets. Hell

Yes, and what does that mean?

Search this under Google:

BD-XL XD30-AGP1

Look at first results..grin

I only get listings for BDXL disks, not sure what leap you're trying to make here?

Take a look at a 6x BDXL pioneer drive

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00TL4HGB2/ref=pd_aw_sim_23_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=0H713XSMW17MVEMWDGGX

I see a 6x BDXL drive, which I still think is too slow at 6x.
(for the spec anyway, I doubt any UHD disks actually go up to 128mps for now)

Perhaps Sony are waiting it out, yet they didn't waste a lot of time enabling 3D blu-ray playback on the ps3. If they could, what's stopping them from enabling 4K UHD playback on all ps4 like HDR.

Most Likely, licence's and on top of that it could very well be a ROM 4 hybrid Data read only past the 2nd layer on up! Also with looking to remain @Profit on the Hardware itself, I doubt very much they want to loose money on a razor thin Margin for the systems.

It's far cheaper to use the HDMi dedicated Scaler. To upscale the regular BR- To 4K

Source, please...

None of your "sources" make any sense. (Actually the first thing that came up in Google was motor oil ad).

Nobody denies that Sony has licenses for bd-xl. Nobody denies that Panasonic makes drives that are bd-xl compatible.

I did not see anything that proves your assertion....

That is not SONY's problem. They are not obligated to include a 4K player, and by not having the feature its not their fault you gotta buy a product unrelated to PS line. They're not railroaing you into anything. Thats like walking into McDonald's and asking for a chicken big mac, something theve never advertised as a thing, then blaming them because you got buy a big mac and a chicken sandwich now. That is just stupid.

Not if the PS4Pro can play 4K movies with just an update and Sony is hiding that fact in order for people to buy their BR players separately.

They have already revealed the specs for their UHD BR player. http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/sony-announces-ubp-x1000es-4k-uhd-blu-ray-player-es-series-receivers/

Sony unveiled their stand alone 4K player the other day. As insiders have said, this is why the PS4P does not have a UHD player. They simply don't want the relatively cheap PS4P to undercut sales of their player. So I wouldn't be surprised to see a firmware update, if its possible, or a new model with UHD disc capabilities released a bit after they release that player. Sucks for consumers, I am sure Sony's player will be quite expensive.

the company is finally pulling the tarp off its first 4K UHD Blu-ray player alongside a brand new projector, both of which are aimed at upper-tier videophiles.

Really, it's not going to compete with the ps4. Enabling 4K UHD playback in the ps4 would not affect the sales of that player.
