They would announced that they were having a press conference of some sort if they were going to reveal the NX. They could just say to tune in for some gaming news. They don't need to give any reason. Just give us a reason to tune in! xD

When all the major gamesshows and new hardware reveals are over they gonna reveal the NX. They are waiting for a quite period to reveal it. So I think after the TGS 2016.

They really need to. I don't know what's up with Nintendo, but it almost seems as if they are afraid to announce it. Sure, this gen marks the first time all 3 have announced less than a year from launch, but if they aren't going to announce it in Sept at TGS, then when?

Sony announced the PS4 9 months before launch. Now, if they announce it this month, that'll be on par with MS's 6 months. But, if they don't do it soon, they aren't going to have time to hype it, explain the hybrid concept to the masses, or iron out any kinks in their HW/policies that the public may dislike. They're already going to have a time trying explain why gamers should want a gaming tablet/hybrid console that's not even on par with XBO and more in line with being a Wii U Pro.

Scorpio and PS4 Pro aren't "next gen" machines. They're upgrades to PS4 and Xbox One. PS4 Pro has the word "PS4" in it for crying out loud. NX is a brand new machine so, what you said doesn't make any sense.

I suspect Nintendo is keeping this all close to the vest because they're tinkering with just the right PR. It probably has nothing to do with hardware.
