Forums - Sony - Sony is going to give up portables?

Nintendo has more then 1 flop in home console market they still making home consoles.

This reminds me of when I asked what would happen if a PlayStation home console for whatever reason failed, most people said Sony would likely exit completely the home console market...

I'm that weird guy who thinks if the Vita had been a smartphone and ran on Android it would have been a success. I mean, why would I have wanted any other phone at the time? Real controls for real games along with doing all my usual phone stuff? Emulators galore? Shit yeah. I still hope someone plans on doing this some day. Maybe the NX is actually a smartphone. :P

Problem is Sony's "target" demographic is and always has been teenage and 20 something males .... good luck getting any of them to carry around a portable gaming console in this day and age.

Not gonna happen.

And main success Sony had with the PSP was due to Mosnter Hunter in Japan, once Nintendo took that away (which is basically one of the few smart moves Nintendo made from 2010-2015), Sony's portable foruntes were basically cut off at the knees in Japan. Vita does OK there, but nothing special.

Many people carry a 3DS.

they wont there is project trinity

They gave up in the West a while ago, but there is still a chance we still may see another handheld, though is unlikely..

I kind of wish Sony would have a go with another portable, but I'm also glad that a lot of the games that would have been stuck on PSP and DS last generation are finding their way back to consoles.

Yes, for the rest of the decade at least.

I think if they do a smart phone hybrid, it'll only be for streaming and PSVita BC, I don't think any original games would be made for it.

Sony should make an Android powered device basically like the Nvida Shield Portable. It could offer exclusive software and countless other games from the already massive Android library.

Going this route people couldn't complain about lack of support because it could keep getting Android games.

Smartphones killed handheld console market. Only Nintendo can still keep going with this but even their handhelds have been hurt by phones.

The Vita didn't fail. The human race did. Enjoy your smartphone games and underwater coastal cities.

You mean 3DS... :)
