Forums - Sony - Developers are NOT allowed to charge you money for Pro update

On a reliable dutch website an article popped up.  This article is based on a new post on the Japanese website Game Impress Watch where they had an interview with Sony and asked if they would charge money for the updates on games.

Based on the information, Sony will not ask money for the updates of the games on PS4 pro but there is a cost for developers to do the updates and it is allowed to charge for an enhanced experience.

Update: It should be noted Sony confirmed via other websites future games are deffinitely not allowed to charge money, its unclear however if developers patching old games, released the last 3 years, are allowed to cover the expenses it takes to create the update are allowed to charge a small fee

Not surprising, otherwise what incentive do developers have to spend money and resources patching old games? Don't know if we'll ever see it happen though.

It is fake or it's a translation issue. Multiple fonts are actually reporting that they are NOT allowed to charge you, the exact opposite of this thread.

Lets hope so, because it would be kind of BS, I was kind of shocked by the article.

So you have collector editions that do not come with the game, you have DLC season pass, which you have no idea what you are getting half the time. That same pass might not get you all the DLC within said time frame it should be covering. Microtransactions in fully priced games that have a lot of holes.

Now you can add charging for "improvements". You know this is basically the idea paying for patches. I do hate the nickle and diming some of the bigger companies can do. (I hope this is fake, but given the last 10 years, I do not know if it will be in the end).

Seems a odd choice, Hopefully it's not true.

Yeah, in the Polygon article it says a Sony rep said it is false and a developer wrote that companies aren't allowed to charge for pro mode changes.

I checked some articles and discussions and it seems like if this is true its only true on old games, not on new releases, that seems to be sure

Good, I hope it is fake, and this is the last time something like this is even brought up.

Probably just a translation issue.

I am waiting on more information because I am curious on how the HDR is going to get patched in. I (assumed) HDR is a hardware thing and not a software thing. My 4k TV is a 2016 model that has HDR. My buddy has a Sony 4k television that is a year old and does not have HDR capability. He is not even bothering to upgrade to the PS4 Pro because he sees little reason if his television can not take advantage of the HDR. He is happy with his current PS4.

I am by no means an expert so I am basing this all on my current understanding of HDR.

The new Xbox One S had to have new hardware to allow for HDR. Perhaps the PS4 already had it and it just needed to be patched, but I am REALLY....really skeptical about it currently.
