Forums - Nintendo - NOW is the prime time to unveil the NX

Pokemon Go, Super Mario Run, and NES classic edition are clearly successful efforts to reel in lapsed fans as well as bring in new fans.

Zelda Breath of the Wild has hardcore gamers everywhere of all backgrounds stoked.

Because of these efforts over this past year, Nintendo has expanded their potential reach from a few million hardcore Nintendo fans to an audience of tens if not hundreds of millions of people.

Sony's boring meeting and poor choices with the PS4 Slim and Pro are causing consumer sentiment to sag - especially in comparison to how good PS4 looked between it's initial launch up til E3 this year. And if PSVR makes the wider public cringe at first glance (which it very well could) oh boy....

And while X1 has had a little surge lately - it's mostly owed to fire-sale prices and hardware revision many hardcore Xbox fans went for right away. In reality, Xbox One barely competes worldwide with the 5 years+ old, far less capable 3DS.

A strategically well-timed, well-executed NX reveal can ignite the reengergized Nintendo fanbase  while  also neutering PS4 and Xbox One through the holiday up until the NX launch. Anything and everything NX is known to better than the assorted variants of PS4 and X1 will be an added pain point for those systems.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Around the Network

Nintendo is really dropping little nukes all of a sudden, now it's time to drop the big one. I thought Nintendo would be smothered this holiday, but they actually have a decent showing, and it's by themselves for the most part. Let's not keep it that way, but at least we know Nintendo can hold its own.

NX needs to be unveiled soon for Nintendo to have time to market it, and because like you said, gamers are underwhelmed by this years hardware showings. With NX, we'll be seeing new hardware and software.

The PS4 conference and the PS4 Pro are really a non-factor here. Sure it was boring, and no 4K bluray is a bummer, but it's nothing that significant in the long run.

Nintendo should be debuting the NX soon simply because of time. It's not necessary to debut products a year out anymore, but if this is as revolutionary of a product as Nintendo claims, they need at least 6 months to explain it well, and build hype.

Supposedly they might in a couple of weeks according to Eurogamer.

Nintendo can't just run on shock value, and lingering rebound fans. Nintendo needs to build hype for better understanding of the overall consumers. They wouldn't want a repeat of Wii U.

Around the Network

I'd love for Nintendo to show it tomorrow, but realistically I think they could wait until October or even November if they really want. Based on what we've heard of the system, it's quite different from anything on the market so it's not necessary to respond to other companies.

A lot of people are predicting October.. will wait and see if that is the case

Unless the system isn't good. Then it definitely isn't the right time at all.

They will unveil it when it's too late.

I highly doubt they are trying to compete with Sony in their market. I find it much more likely they'll try create their own that doesn't compete with Sony MS.

You can't really on one hand say Sony has dissapointed when they've got a cheap slim getting all the major games, a shit ton Nintendo will never get. And a Pro console which opens up an affordable path into 4k gaming.

Like how is Nintendo going to steal their thunder? Announce the NX has an UHD drive and will power games in native 4k @60fps? And along with that every major third party game is releasing on it?

Because unless they're going to do that, they're not competing with Sony who have a very powerful offering. Not to mention psvr.

Because of this they don't need to reveal it now and they won't. Let the dust settle and find a good period in November or October. Now if they decide to not reveal it to next year I'd be surprised and a little wary of a delayed release to holiday 2017.
