Never said there was, I was pointing out that as a gamer, there were more important features not added.

And if you think a UHD drive only costs $10, then I think we're done talking.

It sure as heck doesn't cost $400 or $700 to make, which the two solo players cost.

The very fact that MS has one in the Xbox One S and the console costs $300 shows that it does not cost a fortune. Microsoft is not going to sell their console for $300 if just the Blu Ray drive costs to manufacture $200.

No one here said it costs that much. The only assumption anyone made was you in that it couldn't cost more than $10.

In any case, I'd like to how many people buy blu-rays, let alone 4k blu-rays?

http://www.the-numbers.com/home-market/bluray-sales/2016
Best selling blu-ray Star wars 7, 5 million sold. That's an outlier though, The Martian at #7 is already below a million.

4K blu-ray
http://www.homemediamagazine.com/market-share/top-20-blu-ray-market-share-week-ended-072416

Insurgent had at 17% market share on 4K last week, don't ask me why. Bad movie with a sloppy transfer from a 2K master.
The rest 6% and lower, Star Trek taking the number 2 spot. (Also 2K master but better transfer)
Weekly info isn't very useful though, obviously spikes when a new release comes out. I can't find any compiled numbers.

It is an outlier. TFA, Deadpool and Zootopia are the only 3 titles that sold more on Blu-Ray than DVD.

I stand by that $10.

Sony can probably make the cheapest ones out of anyone. They aren't new, they don't have to pay any licensing fees, and they woudl be making it in MASS.

The solo players out there won't sell a fraction of what the Pro could/will sell. They would be making millions of them. Thta brings down production cost making bulk.

Then there is the HDR possible war. Sony makes their console a hit again and they practically guarantee that HDR10 wins and Dolby Digital, which you need to pay for, becomes obscure. Now they leave it open for Dolby Digital to become the main HDR out there and Sony has to end up paying for that on their TV's, Players and future gaming systems to support Dolby Digital.

But what about 4k streaming? There`s no reason to don`t have it. The hardware is there.

Then you're wrong. Thanks for playing.

In absolute terms I'd say many, not that many compared to Netflix and streaming users (at least in the countries where those services are really viable).

But the point is another. Sony (and Playstation) always played an active role in the introduction of new formats (since there simply aren't other TV devices that move as many units as PS consoles). Blu-rays and DVDs weren't that much popular as well at the time they released the Ps3 and the Ps2 respectively.

More than a reaction to the market, they deliberately decided they don't care that much about blu-rays and they want to focus soley on gaming. Of course they're free to do so, but at the same time it's perfectly understandable some users aren't exactly happy about it.

Yeah, blu-ray never really got passed 50% market share and this year digital will overtake physical revenue in the US, already did in the UK.

Funny how they still lump blu-ray with dvd :/

It's a shame. I love physical media and all the extras that come on the disc. My internet has trouble keeping up with Netflix' so called 1080p 'quality'. It looks like my hobby is about to become a lot more expensive. Well actually back to when I was buying LaserDiscs, yet nowadays it feels a lot more expensive to pay $35 for movies.

Thank God blu ray discs are smaller than Laserdisks though eh.

Can't imagine if I collected Vinyl records as well. When I had Laserdiscs, it damn near looked like it. Then having to get up and flip the disc over halfway through the movie. lol, good times.

Well, people would be tripping balls if it was above 400...

Can't satisfy everyone

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

I don't think there's anything wrong with some people being upset. For those interested in 4k blu-rays, the lack of it is obviously going to be a negative. I do think some are going a bit overboard in how they project those opinions though. It's one thing to be disappointed, or even believe it'll overall hurt the PS4 Pro, but to act like its exclusion is an inherent negative is just silly.
