It's also worth mentioning streaming compression is a relevant compromise to video quality.
Basically we're supposed to spend a lot in order to upgrade the TV and the console for the highest quality possible, only to use a media that compromises quality. No, thanks.

In any case, I'd like to how many people buy blu-rays, let alone 4k blu-rays?

Do people even buy blu rays?

Yes, I have over 500, but my purchases have been slowing down. Not because of streaming, more because modern movies suck :p
I'm not interested in 4K until 4K projectors become affordable. Doubling the resolution while halving the screen size, no point.

A Premium console on the market should be marketed towards the premium market.

Heck I think DVD's still sell more than Blu Rays.

I was watchign youtube vids and reading articles all week on 4k blu rays. They all listed and talked about the 2 players availbale today and then said the best bang for buck in the One S, BUT they said to wait on the PS4 Neo cause that may be the best.

God forbid people want the ability to watch 4k movies.

To be fair, a premium console should target premium gamers. As much as lacking a UHD drive upsets me, if Sony were to dangle BC and UHD Bluray on strings in front of me... I'd grab BC.

There was no BC though either.

But how much would UHD blu ray cost them. Does not not own blu ray and all the propriety and what not. MS managed to put out the One S for $300 with the drive and they would be paying min double what Sony would for the drive. I doubt adding it would cost more than $10 for Sony.

It just makes zero sense to me. I really think I woudl have purchased this Pro if it had it. I say maybe, just because I'm not sure if I want ot wait till Nov 10 for a UHD player. Though I really should. See any black firday deals, ect. But I've waited long enough for the Pro reveal, assuming it would have it. It not having it is just such a huge shock and slap to my face that I'm bitter at Sony right now. I just can't believe Sony of all people is not having this drive.

Never said there was, I was pointing out that as a gamer, there were more important features not added.

And if you think a UHD drive only costs $10, then I think we're done talking.

http://www.the-numbers.com/home-market/bluray-sales/2016
Best selling blu-ray Star wars 7, 5 million sold. That's an outlier though, The Martian at #7 is already below a million.

4K blu-ray
http://www.homemediamagazine.com/market-share/top-20-blu-ray-market-share-week-ended-072416

Insurgent had at 17% market share on 4K last week, don't ask me why. Bad movie with a sloppy transfer from a 2K master.
The rest 6% and lower, Star Trek taking the number 2 spot. (Also 2K master but better transfer)
Weekly info isn't very useful though, obviously spikes when a new release comes out. I can't find any compiled numbers.

It sure as heck doesn't cost $400 or $700 to make, which the two solo players cost.

The very fact that MS has one in the Xbox One S and the console costs $300 shows that it does not cost a fortune. Microsoft is not going to sell their console for $300 if just the Blu Ray drive costs to manufacture $200.
