Forums - Sony - Speculation: Will Sony announce PS3 BC tomorrow

I was thinking ever since xbone got 360 backwards compatiblity people have asked when will PS4 get it. I believe the reason why it hasn't happened was because PS4 was unable to emulate the PS3, but with the more powerful NEO coming they have finally figured it out and it will be a NEO-exclusive feature much like SNES-games are exclusive to the New 3DS

Who cares for BC. Wanna play PS3? Get out your PS3. BC for HD consoles is the most pointless thing ever imo. It made sense with older gens because they were SD.

Lol at Snes games being exclusive to N3DS, was the old 3DS too weak or something?

Since my PS3 is sitting right next to my PS4, this feature isn't really a big deal to me, but boy would I love it if they gave us PS2 BC. I sold my PS2 years ago, and my original 60GB PS3 died a few years ago, leaving me with only emulation on the PC (which isn't 100% perfect) as my PS2 option. And hell, toss in PS1 compatibility as well.

But we all know it probably won't happen.

Too much effort probably... so no.
Also they want to sell you on cloud gameing, older gen games via PS now.

At this point, owning a ps3, I can not bring myself to pay to stream games I already have or can buy to own for $10 or less. I can play it on ps3 with no internet which came in handy when the recent hurricane swept through, lost internet, but kept power. Which still did no good, besides not sweating my ass off due to the humidity and heat.

As long as they do not have backwards compatibility local on the machine itself, it is useless and worthless to me and my setup and situation.

It has however been nice to be able to put away the x360 and make room and I love the BC on the XBO which has brought me back to the system in a big way. Especially in the sony exclusive drought has made it easy for me.

I would have agreed that PS3 BC on PS4 Neo would probably be redundant if PS Now was actually available everywhere, but it isn't. Currently it is just available in a handful of countries and Sony seems to be in no rush to expand

No. It's probably almost impossible to do with current hardware.

Wasn't the CPU of the PS3 stronger than the one inside the PS4 and wouldn't that make BC impossible?

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

BC is a thing you do when you try to catch up to competitors or when it's too easy not to do.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I am hoping for this. My PS3 games would be finally playable as I sold my second PS3 quite a while ago. Don't want to buy PS3 again.

Why not? PS3s also deserve love!

1. My two PS3 got unusable because of dead HDMI.

2. Dual shock 4 will be cool for PS3 games.

3. PS4 Neo can effectively replace my current PS4 and no need for PS3.

it reached higher peak performance in a few tasks and the better developers made use of the strengths of the architecture in various ways, so it's probably almost impossible to write an emulator that reaches PS3-level performance across all or atleast a big majority of PS3 games with PS4 or even Neo level of processing power
