Forums - Nintendo - A (delusional) arguement for Nintendo becoming third party developer.

Producing their own proprietary hardware is too important and prestigious to them. Nintendo would have so many ego's shattered if they had to rely on their enemies hardware to sell their games.

Yes Nintendo is a proud company for the good and bad

Yes i was not serious but I wanted to hear other people's crazy idea's :)

Indeed, there was very little thought put into this idea.

Making games for non-Nintendo hardware to advertise Nintendo games for Nintendo hardware can be done in a much better way.

Demo's on PC could work well

That sounds like a horrible idea. I regret reading the OP.

I'm truly sorry I edited the tittle for you.

He ls saying they should take their IP with them and stop making games altogether before going 3rd party! No previous hardware company that went to making software only has been extremely successful up to this point, so why do we think that Nintendo would land on Playstation and Xbox and make huge strides of new fans.

The most likely scenario is them ending up like Sega and being a shell of their former selves if they did this...

But Nintendo make good games.

So did Sega once upon a time

As someone who thinks Sega are currently the best they've ever been.... I'd love that outcome

Sega is nowhere near the quality they were back when they made hardware! Say what you will about the console choices, but they supported the systems with excellent games. Now they can't make a great Sonic game to save their lives.

Don't let the harsh comments get to you, it was an interesting idea to throw out there. I think basically what your saying is imagine if COD and GTA went first party all of a sudden, taking their fans with them. If Mario and Zelda were selling 30 million copies on XBox and PlayStation, then Nintendo took the franchises back home, would the console be a success?  I don't think it would be a good idea, but it's an interesting discussion.

I think they're dabbling with the concept on mobile. Release a game like Pokemon Go, hoping it hooks the broader market into buying the real games.

Maybe, but who needs Sonic when you have stuff like Total War?

What about Skies of Arcadia, Sega GT, Nights, Space Channel 5, Panzer  Dragoon, Phantasy Star or the fact that during the Dreamcast era because EA didn't want to put their games on the system Sega invested in Visual Concepts and made much better sports games than EA did.

Let's face it that Sega no longer exists and they now longer take risks on those franchises that are risqué. Which is why Bayonetta 2 wouldn't have been made without Nintendo and Shenmue is using Kickstarter for funding. If Nintendo became Sega there's no reason for them to make games like DKTF, XCX, Pikmin, Kirby or Yoshi, because that audience  simply doesn't exist on the more mainstream consoles.

There is only one reason for Nintendo to go 3rd party, consumer friendliness.

Great idea, this way people who want to play mostly Nintendo games on a console will finally also enjoy the consumer friendly policy to pay extra fees to play online, brilliant. That PS+ got even more expensive is most likely just a bonus to be very happy about for consumers.

Always a joy to see people with inconsistent arguments just based on the system of choice like you.

IF Nintendo goes PC, which they should if they become a third party, they'll probably launch their own eShop store to get all the profits possible, which in turn will also piss off PC gamers that will complain because they don't launch their games on Steam.

That way, Nintendo will still be able to piss off everybody, both on consoles and on PC.

OT: Something similar said the Sega die hard fans when they left the hardware market: "just until they get in the green again and can come back with a new and great machine". But things don't work that way and once their games appeared on other platforms, their consumers moved on accordingly and never looked back.

And the same would happen with Nintendo.

Yeah sega was in a really bad position financially before that happened. The dreamcast is still my favorite console.

The better option would be to release demos on the PC to advertise their games.

PC demos could work, but that would require a lot of extra work.

But Sega doesn't really make Total War. They bought The Creative Assembly who are the ones that made the Total Wars games since long before being bought by Sega.
