Forums - Gaming - Sony Needs to Lower the Price of the PS4.

I've noticed current PS4 bundles with one game are around $350 USD.  The Xbox One S with Halo is $300 USD.  And let's not for get that the Xbox One just outsold the PS4 in North America in the month of July.  If Sony wants to keep thanking their supporters for making the PS4 the best selling console, the PS4 need to drop in price very soon.

Making money is more important than driving their install base.  Not sure if a price cut would be beneficial.

Why should it cost the same as the xb1s? The 1st gen ps4 is still smaller and still more powerful.

I do agree that we're ready for another price drop. But there's no valid reason it couldn't be more expensive than the xb1s.

They are going to replace the current PS4 with the new one. According to unboxing videos the new one is not called slim just a PS4 so 300$ is most likely

I believe it was revealed that the Slim costs $198 to manufacture, so (if the past is any indication) we're looking at a $250 price for the holidays... But I wouldn't put it past Sony to do it for $200 during those holidays, then bump up to $250 after January. The company is known to take a loss on the console to get it in homes, and $200 would probably be losing around $10 for each console sold (after shipping and whatnot). If everyone were to buy the console with one game, that makes up for it, but most people buy a console with two or three games.

If course, this is only speculation. I believe the $250 price tag to be the most logical course of action; $100 price drop, 20% margin to the company, beating the already beaten competition's price by $50, and launching for the holiday season. It's gonna be a good Christmas for Sony.

Why should a current PS4 owner care if the PS4 gets a price-cut or not? If anything it makes it feel as if I lost by buying it before the price-cut.

Sony really has no reason to lower the Ps4's price to be honest, they need to make that profit.

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

As long as they keep their sales up in Europe Sony can do whatever they please

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I think that's what the Slim is for. Smaller, cheaper parts to replace the Vanilla PS4 and give Sony wiggle room with the price, whereas Neo will be around the same price as PS4 on Day 1.

To be honest though, Sony lowering the price right now would be for the sake of just selling more units. Even with the higher price tag, it's still outselling the XB1 by a large margin, and being extremely competitive in the US.
