Forums - Sales - Could Europe ever become the biggest market?

Not likely. The US is still growing pretty rapidly while Europe is losing population.

The falling dollar has almost no impact on US game sales as record sales have amounted for the past several years in a row with this year predicted to be a huge leap over last year. Europe's Euro and Pound may be increasing in value but will still contend with incredibly high prices.

The mighty European Union the next new economic super power.

Asia could become the biggest market again in maybe 20 years, the thing about most Asia countries though (China, India, Indonesia, etc) is piracy and inflated prices. If they can somehow fix the piracy problem that is so prevalent in those countries and make the prices more competitive compared to the average person's wage, then they could probably be the biggest market next generation.

The same problem with piracy occurs in Latin America, which could be a very good healthy market, though of course not the biggest.

Fix piracy problems in the developing world. That would never happen. Too much money would be spent on trying to police the world. Money would be better spent trying to feed, clothe , educate, provide shelter and provide medical assistance for people in developing countries. The people who sell pirate games are trying to making a living. The asian people also need to feed, clothe, shelter their families too. They are not all fortunate enough to be born in a developed country where life is a lot easier.

First off, the U.S. does not equal NA:

U.S. + Canada + Mexico = NA, and while the spending on games looks like it's going down in the U.S., the other two are growing.

That's how you fix piracy problems.....but I agree, it's no easy feat.

The biggest problem is Asia is not piracy; its a rapidly growing but very wobbly economy (there are dozens of mini crisis in both China and India, meat shortages, too little housing and not to mention trouble developing more efficent agriculture).

Spending going down? Are you kidding? Reports are showing record breaking sales.

Uh.........the US & NA is rapidly growing while Europe is (I think) the only continent in the world that is basically shrinking. While Europe is becoming a big part of the marketplace and I can see it being just as importnat as NA, I don' think it'll ever be this big "monster" that overshadows every other market.

I think you'll see game development centered in NA & Japan for the next decade at the very least. With NA Europe Asia Pacific all being about equal in terms of importance, maybe NA a little in front just because of all the game development in the US.
