Forums - Nintendo - New Pokémon Announced at Gamescom !

As previously announced today at 17:00 CEST news regardin Pokémon Sun/Moon were shared. Turtonator, a Fire/Dragon type Pokémon was announced.

Turtonator has an exclusive move called Shell Trap: if Turtonator uses Shell Trap at the beginning of a turn and is hit by a physical move during that same turn the opponent will be hit by a powerful explosion that will deal a higher damage than the one Turtonator received.

During the stream we also had the chance to see the Normal type Z-move used by a Pikachu in a Battle Royale !

It looks nice, but arent they showing a lot of dragons? How many of those are going to make that generation?

Also, it looks like another protect-like move, but with added effects. Poor protect alone is being upstaged constantly.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

It doesn't protect him, actually I'm positive the damage is calculated depending on how much damage the user recieved since the official website says "an explosion that will deal a much greater damage to the opponent". It's very usefull since Turtonator is weak against Ground and Rock  type moves, which are mainly phisical, since they don't have to be contact moves it means that Turtonator (who will likely have a skyrocket defense) will live an Earthquake/Rockslide losing a good chung of his health only to give back the hit boosted...

So like a more powerful counter, then?

Since the game says that the Pokémon Sets the Trap at the beginning of the turn I feel like even if Turtonator is killed the trap will still activate, meaning that it's possible to revenge-kill without a revenge killer. Also it's likely a Fire type move which is pretty sweet since there is no type that is immune to Fire (while Ghosts are immune to Counter) and most Flash Fire Pokémon are special so you still couldn't use it against them...

That seems reasonable, although I've never been a fan of those strategies, I try to avoid damage as much as possible, and I don't want to rely on it to attack my opponents.

Me too but since Turtonator has only 3 weaknesess and those 3 are mainly physical (Ground Rock and Dragon) this move would be DEVASTATING if he had something like 120/130 defense...

Cool Pokemon, but it does not make up for the travesty that has happened today, only a dolphin poke woulda done that for me.

Ash took another L right? I knew it

OP: I like the new pokemon, it's ability sound cool and if Turtonator (ridiculous name btw) has good defense the ability will be even better.

The pokemon design is fan and fire/dragon is great, but the name is awful. Turtonator? Lame!
