Aqua posts what she's allowed to. It's not up to the community.

It's fairly good of NPD to even allow some data points to be posted publicly. Granted they are fairly immaterial to NPD's overall business.

Besides, I never really get the obsession around numbers anymore, other than to fuel fanboy nonsense. Why can't people look at overall market trends instead.

Do you honestly believe that someone has to be a fanboy in order to be interested in 3DS numbers? People would actually like to look at overall market trends, but look at the situation we are in. We aren't even guaranteed to get hardware numbers for the #1 system this month.

The only thing this bizarre, unnecessary drama will do is drive me away from this community. This is the second time you've been nasty over this.

In my opinion, WIU, 3DS, PSV, 360, PS3, and Wii are all completely dead.

But I don't look at consoles, I look at markets. You have the Home Console market, the Handheld market, the PC Retail market, the Accessories market, and the Toys / Plug-and-play Market.

Generally, in the USA, the retail Handheld market has been very slow. 3rd-party games are increasingly rare on handhelds, Sony has completely abandoned the Vita (just shy of discontinuing it), and Nintendo will abandon the 3DS the instant NX releases.

I don't really care about dying markets or super-tiny publishers. That's why I don't tend to comment on super niche games from some random Japanese outlet that launch to like 25K.

My personal interests lie with the big drivers of the retail market....which in 2016 have been the console industry. That's why I've been showing a vertical slice of the console industry. It's taking a holistic approach to data sharing as opposed to just satiating console warz.

July 2016 is an interesting month because Pokemon Go completely invigorated Handheld sales and for the first time in a long time the 3DS is relevant, so I'm checking to see if I can comment on that or not.

I dont understand how 3DS can be lumped in the same category as PS3/360/Vita/Wii/WiiU. Hasnt it sold more than those 5 combined this year?

But regardless, thank you for trying to get 3DS numbers this month.

Then when NX will release we can stop talk about 3DS sales, this doesn't change that now 3DS is relevant, and i would say that for the next two months too 3DS will probabily be still more relevant than PS4.

sure. the pokemon go impact on 3ds hardware and (pokemon) software sales will be interesting for the rest of the year
when there is something to share, it should be done.

i just mean that in the grand scheme of things and mid term, they are all kind of irrelevant.
non is a platform with any future

Honestly i don't think we should watch the future. I see what are the things right now, even because i may say PS4/XBO in 3 years will be irrelevant because the new console.

Of course, that's another case since we are not talking about years and months, but what i mean is, why look at the future if sales right now are what we see?

Also, the future is something which you can't know. How we know 3DS will be irrevenantnext year? Of course is something we all predict and well let's be serius, is gonna happen for sure, but the future is something which don't exists right now.

But we both agree that those months make sense share 3DS numbers, so... i don't think we should discuss no?

That said, i would like 3DS numbers but Aqua share what they want/can, so like said, we'll see.

3DS still sells somewhat well hardware-wise, but it tends to be very weak software-wise. Third-party sales are low to non-existent....it's basically The Nintendo Machine. It's the only somewhat-viable platform in a quickly-dying market...and it's about to get supplanted by its successor in 7 months.

Yes, I know. I need to be very careful.

It's a shame that it's impossible to detect sarcasm over the Internet.

Players =/= customers. That's a crucial difference.

For a company like Nintendo who has so many highly regarded IPs, there's more money to be made as a console manufacturer than as a third party.

That is very true, and is great. Well it would be if Nintendo were making it.

Sony are making more money as a manufacturer than they would be going third party. Nintendo probably aren't in that boat. They're currently making these AAA console titles and selling to 13 million potential users because they're having trouble getting people to buy their hardware. Games are no problem, everyone loves nintendo games. It's the hardware that is very expensive to R&D and produce. When they can elimate that completely and sell to an audience 10x bigger.

We'll see what hapens with the NX of course.

you're ignoring a device that accounts for about 80% of Nintendo's hardware sales and has multiple games that have sold over 10 million.

It's crazy to see the PS4 being in third place. I never though I would see that happen. I don't even remember the last time seeing it in second, although I haven't been following NPD too hard.

Take a look at half the posts in this thread and on NeoGaf already.

And of course I'm generalising. Not tarring all with the same brush here. Nor am I talking about people asking for 3DS numbers. Just how people act when they get numbers in general.

and when they get "useless" revenue numbers only, the topic is dead, because there is nothing to fight for
people who care just for sales, are totally fine with revenue numbers, to compare.
i rather have revenue that includes digital than units retail only, that become less relevant and representative of the whole market.
it just sucks, that some games does not inlcude digital and some does. that makes a ranking kind of joke, though...

but i also like to get hard unit numbers, you can't control or chance what other people will do with that numbers. just enjoy or ignore the madness

I get where youre coming from, im just saying i wouldnt put it in the same boat as the other platforms listed since it currently sells as much as all them combined.

By the way, if NX is primarily a handheld will you give numbers for it?
