Keep in mind, patent drawings are just to give you a visual of the idea, they almost never represent final ergonomics or designs.
|
They also need to be as vague as possible about the idea so that it can apply to a wider range of potential products.

I'm starting to wonder if NX will have a small/cheap (?) projector.
Yes, a projector. This is at least now the second round of patents that mentions a projector from Nintendo.
Before this they patented this:

You also need to keep in mind that, just because they may have patented something, doesn't mean they will use it.
Patents are valuable, especially with self defense when it comes to litigation.

You would think a low-powered Bluetooth would be cheaper, not suffer from obstructions, have more bandwidth and work over a greater distance.

Nikkei basically reported it'll be able to run Android apps full stop. Nikkei is almost always right even when Nintendo denies their reporting.

Source?

Which makes sense, Nintendo can then take 30% of the profit from smartphone apps on NX.
|
Only Smartphone apps through it's own store, if you have it through the Google Play Store, sideloaded or some other 3rd party solution, then Nintendo get's literally nothing.
And that is *if* Nintendo allows for 3rd party apps.

They don't have to run Android as an OS per say though, could still be a custom Nintendo OS, just with an Android fork underlay or something.
|
Depends. You can't just make drastic overhauls to Android, it's API's, Drivers and other parts of the OS and hope to retain compatability.

Android devs will easily be able to add physical controls to their Android games.

Allot of Android games already do have physical control support.
In-fact, the games don't even need to support Physical controls for physical controllersupport, my gamepad tablet works with pretty much every Android game, even if the game doesn't support physical controls.

This is the Samsung Galaxy Beam ... a phone with a small projector built into it:

Maybe NX has something similar?
|
If it has a projector, it would be very similar to that.
It's fairly bulky and power consuming though, which could impact the device experience.

Depends, anything is a threat for piracy.
Nintendo can customize things heavily.
You don't really even have to prevent piracy you simply need to make it hard enough so that "average joe" won't bother with it.
|
You open up a platform for 3rd party software... You are opened up for piracy, hacks, cracks, reverse engineering etc'.
If the PC is any consolidation, there are millions of people who know how to pirate.
CarcharodonKraz said: huh, this just made me remember the interview where some nintendo producer or suit or something was like "i could see us possibly making a gaming controller for tablets." Of course they would if it will only work with there stuff. Built in peripheral/accessory sales. God that screams nintendo.... unfortunately. |
I would rather a form factor like this without removable controllers. Better hardware uniformity.

I actually have one of these:

It's an absolute ripper for emulation like NES, SNES, N64, PS1, Gamecube, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, DS, 3DS etc'.
