How did they put it down exactly?

Distributed Denial of Service attack. Basically, you use a program to make millions of queries to the website which paralyses it.

I see...

Well that is all sorts of wrong.

The anonymity of the Internet certainly is an aggravating factor. But I do think parochialism and brand loyalty is a bigger problem in the community of video game fans than, say, movie or music fans.

I don't think you've spent enough time at pop forums. They can be just as toxic with person defending actors and pop stars more than they would their own child by attacking other users or movies/pop stars. Death threats, wishing someone will get cancer, wisher their children will get cancer, etc.

Internet will be internet.

Even assuming all communities are equally toxic, there's no reason not to aspire for a more educated and inclusive video game community. We shouldn't tolerate this immature bullying, no matter the medium.

For movies, the recent petition to take down RottenTomatoes because of the bad Suicide Squad score seems to fall in the same category as this attack on Jim's site (i.e. incredibly stupid things insecure people do when someone "attacks" the thing they love ).

Oh good point! I had completely forgotten about that.

Although I wonder if that has more to do with DC/Marvel than it does with cinema.

Oh my...

Some people need to stop going too far.

What does that mean, exactly? What do you suggest we do? And will that have any effect on the way the video game community behaves?

This sounds like "thoughts and prayers" on facebook. They achieve nothing.

I say the less attention we pay to them, the better.

Lead by example? Disavow those who engage in infantile and destructive ways? Hold each other accountable?

I donno, something other than "nothing."

5/10? Jesus that is low... No wonder he is getting attacked by salty fans, specially since it is the first review on metacritic. Time to read the review

Actually i was surprised the score was that high. I read Jims rewiews once in a while and he is one of the critics that use the full 1-10 scale, so a 5 is quite literally mediocre. After reading it I expected him to give it more of 3-4 as he really seemed to dislike it.

Nothing to throw a tantrum over imo, but it being the first rewiew on metacritic puts this in a new light....

5/10 is quite literally average*

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

dang.

I bet he'd get exactly the same response if he gives Zelda U an 8.5/10

Seems like a well-constructed review. I expect more of the same from other reviews.
