... why do people want to force multi-player into a single-player game?

If you want multi-player that badly, play something else. There are TONS of games where your experience can be ruined by someone else, go buy one of those.

Because for years we have been told we would be able to.

And idk, the game seems like it will be way more fun if you can explore and build and collect with a friend, or even a complete stranger. It's not like people want huge 12v12 space battles or something.

For the record, I am still believing this was some sort of server issue and the most basic of MP functionality is in the game.

The plot thickens... (Got it from Neogaf)

I am hoping this is a fake...

Given it's also marked as 1 player, i'd assume that's just a printing error. That's not to say they did or didn't lie about [x] or [y], i really have no idea (I've not been following NMS), but those two labels seem somewhat contradictory.

Dark Souls also says 1 player.

ok, then perhaps they should name this game "No. of Man's Sky"

I saw One Man's Sky on GAF and thought it was pretty good.

I wonder why this game is multiplayer at all. Would be so much more enticed to get it if it was single player without stupid other guys giving my planets and animes idiotic names.

but here is the interview, at 1:00 he says "yeah, you can play with your friends if that's what you want.

so, that's a lie, right?

To be fair...

This reminds me of that other video...

It is a bit lame that he stated you could run into other players when you can't. That video you posted shows that worse, and more abundant lies have been foisted on gamers by devs. It also shows Morgan Webb at the 19 second mark, which caused my laptop to mysteriously levitate 7 inches above my waist for a brief spell. Weird.....9 inches! I mean 9 inches!

I wonder if it is even possible on this engine. I mean content is generated for each player individually. To see what your mate is seeing you would have to be synced somehow. Let's take this scenario: You and your friend plunder a planet of its resources. One of you then leaves the planet while the other stays. He then reenters the atmosphere and by the game's logic, the resources should be newly generated for him but not ofr the player who stayed on the planet. So which point of view should the game use?

I assume it would work as it should in any other shared world game. For example if I join a server in Destiny, all the resources, chests, enemies, public events, etc, aren't reset. Whatever cool down they are on, they are still on.

He said other people will explore and loot and leave their marks on planets and they want players to see that. So I would assume everyone is in one instance. Otherwise, how would anyone see what other players are doing? Or, at worst, like Destiny, there are lots of instances different players are in. Your example, the resources on the planet would still be however they were when one player left, because they are in the same instance. Someone else in another instance will be experiencing things differently, but all discoveries and names are shared across the entire universe.
