Okay, I finally decided to give my PS3's media feature a try.

 

Works great with Memory stick.

 

But I have a 320GB external harddrive, I plugged it into my PS3 via USB, nothing happens. Help?

How can you get your PS3 to read your files? (movies/music)

You might have to format it to make the PS3 read it. Like set up up a folder within the harddrive. I had to do that to move mods to my PSP for UT3 :P

Any chance there's a step guide for it? Damnit, I don't want to use my 4GB memory stick all the time, it's a pain having to transfer it.

No, you don't have to do that. As long as it is a FAT 32 drive you just hit triangle and display all. Then it will bring up all the files on your drive.

the HDD needs to be FAT32 formatted, just set up an DLNA server instead

Where do you hit triangle? The stupid thing won't even recongize my harddrive, I can't find it anywhere in my PS3 menu

It should just say USB Media Server under Photos, Video, and Music.

 Well, I have a "SimpleTech", not sure what it is...

 

Also, I am not sure if DLNA is the best way to go... hmmm, I have certain.. possibly compromising picture/video of myself and my exs. So yeah, not something that need to be linked. lol

Put those compromising picutres/videos in a seperate folder and protect it so that it's not shared. ;)  Far easier then usinga  external.  And chances are, it's not FAT32 formatted.

I think you need to put said pictures and videos in a special folder... for EVERYONE to see. That would make it much better I would think :/ But yeah! Find out if its fat :D
