Sounds like they added in the 'cheat' modes used in the FF7 PS4 release. The speed up thing is certainly a godsend for when grinding. #9 is one of my least favorite in the series, but I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I finished FFIX on my android phone playing 30 min from work on bus. Always was my favorite FF. Took me a month or so.
I always had this obsession of always needing to buy a Playstation, its good to see all Final Fantasy games coming to steam these days, I love it!
Final Fantasy 9 on Steam is deffenitely the best version ^_^ I finished it a week after release, sutch a great entry in the series!

What I think made it good is since they went for a more cartoonist style the game still nice to look at even in 2016. Most ps1 games aged pretty badly, mainly the 3d ones, but FF IX is one of the few that aged well along crash bandicoot 3.
