Forums - Gaming - Story about how I almost quit video games and Ocarina of Time 3D saved the day!

I was born in 1997 and my first console was the N64 and my first game was Mario Kart 64 becasue of my older brother in 2000. My brother got tons of games for it so I had plenty of games to play on it! My 2nd console I got was the PS2 in 2002/3 and back then my Mom used to get me games like crazy on a monthly basis lol.

I did get the original Xbox in 2004 for few years as well but that died. I had a Gamecube in 2004 and had lots of games (but for some reason they all went missing)

I did get an Xbox 360 in 2008 and got very little supply of games for it. I mostly got WWE games and played the original Xbox games I had for it and played DVDs on it and that was it.. the last real 360 I got for i was probably Left 4 Dead 2.

So my N64 and PS2 entertained me through 2000 - 2009. I

Then my family got the Wii in 2009 and had lots of family fun of on! Mostly played NSMBU (maybe the only Wii game I liked because it didnt have those annoying motion controls), Just Dance, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and a bunch of other family stuff....

2010-2011

By this point I was barely playing the Wii, my PS2 broke down and my sisters had the N64. The only games I was playing was Mario Kart DS on my DS... and i can't remember anything else I was playing at that time. It was a this point I noticed I switched to watching movies instead of video games for fun.

I didnt wanna play games anymore and I thought I wasn't into them anymore. I wanted a PS3 but my Mom heard they're not good and they break easy (Not sure where she heard that from) and no interested in video games... Until I heard aobut Ocarina of Time being remade on the 3DS. I played Ocarina of Time SO MUCH when I was a kid... and I wanted to check out the remake so bad! At first I thought it was for the DS but it was actually for a 3DS (A system I didn't even know of at the time) and i thought the 3d feature wouldn't work. Buut I still wanted it anyways.

Once I got it and Ocarina of Time 3D and the brand new 3DSI felt that gaming magic again! the happiness! the desire to play for hours! It was a beautiful moment and I wanted more games. That Christmas I got a PS3, got games for it, got games on my 3ds and it was all because of Ocarina of Time 3D... Thank you Zelda for bringing me back into gaming!

Born in 1997? Oh man, I feel ancient.

Glad you got back in to gaming! This is a really nice story

I was kind of going through the same thing myself because I'm kind of getting tired of the shooting games now. But Battlefield 1 and the other E3 games that were shown restored my faith in gaming for now. Now we just need to be able to go inside the games and I will love gaming forever.

Good to hear.

I'd say it's the opposite actually. This is a story of how you almost managed to eliminate interest in video games, but OOT got its hooks into you and now you can't escape.

I'd prefer it if I had no interest in video games, my life in general would be better for it. Unfortunately I've been hooked on video games for over 3 decades and I don't see it changing any time soon.

Yes well, what's to say, it is Ocarina of Time.

As soon as I read the title, I could tell that it was you.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

For me, my desire with video games was dying last year. I went about a whole year without playing on consoles, handhelds, and even mobile games. I got a lot into books so maybe that caused the desire to play to sink. Everyone is different, I suppose. I rarely play games even now but I still enjoy the classics.

Ocarina of Time truly is an outstanding game in every imaginable way. It's crazy how well thought-through and full of detail the game is. It's crazy how addicting it is, how motivating and rewarding. Plus it's big as fuck, even by today's standards. For it's time, it was mind-blowing. One of the most ambitious games ever and with no doubt one of the best games of all time.

I had a very similar story except it was Half-Life that kept me in it.
