Forums - Gaming - Has anybody's gaming habits changed with their age?

I play less now given lives obligations, and I also play more handheld (Vita) as I can take it places and do quick 10-20 minutes sessions. This makes playing my favorite genre (RPG) take far longer than when I was younger and started to develop a bit of a backlog.

I`m more of a retrogamer and indie gamer as of lately. Since I own a PS3 and a not high end laptop I can`t play the latest AAA games. So, I`m focused more in finishing games of earlier gens that I lost for some reason and playing indie releases. I finished Chrono Trigger, Metroid Fusion and Metroid GBA remake, Super Mario World, FF VIII and IX and some others. Once I get an PS4 I`ll go after playing the newer games. I`m playing a lot on my smartphone too, I think the game I have most hours this year is Temple Run 2...

I'm 32 been gaming since I was around 7 (sega megadrive/Genesis)
My peak of gaming was the PlayStation 1, sega Saturn, dreamcast, ps2 and ps3 eras. They were the many years in which I'd class as my hardcore gaming years. Although I've came to realise what I class as hardcore isn't on par to other people's hardcore, I've always had other hobbies Eg snowboarding and Rock climbing so I didn't have the time to play on par with people which didn't have other hobbies.

2 years ago I became a Dad to a daughter so my priorities and lifestyle changed. I game around 5-6 hours a week now sometimes even less. Infact, in the past 10 days I've probably done 2 hours gaming max. However i am still a big fan of gaming and still check news sites and follow certain devs and gaming people on Twitter, I'm also really stoked for final fantasy XV in which I'm going to try and make more time for gaming as I've always been a massive FF fan and I want to enjoy that game.

Add me if you want but let me know youre from this website

-i used to be a very hardcore PC gamer last gen: SLI, Core i7, Nvidia 3D vision i experienced it all

- now i am more of a hardcore console gamer, first some older consoles i got back and i was more into Retro. Later i got the PS4 and Wii U and have quite a lot of games for the PS4. I enjoy this console a lot

Started playing on handhelds since 5, I think I played Pokémon Yellow nearly nonstop back then. In fact I played exclusively Pokémon until the NDS came out. Since then I mainly stuck to turn-based games or games which don't require me to have quick reflexes.

The genres I like changed and the number of hours. I play less nowadays, but I used to play a lot of rubbish and I'm now much more selective.

I came from being 100% Nintendo, to almost 100% PC, to currently 30% Nintendo and 70% Sony.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

for me i think im more of a casual gamer now, i dont need to get every game day one. in fact the only game i will buy day one full price is COD infinite warfare legacy edition which is complete turnaround from last gen where i had to literally have every rpg in collection and buy all the latest titles etc

If you're not spending 60$ on unfisnished product, you're a filthy casual.

The only thing I would say truly shifted is my embrace of Western Gaming to Replace the decline of Eastern Gaming companies (I believe a user sums it up for me, basically Eastern Gaming was embracing Anime Cliche way too much).

I like both, but Western gaming embrace opened me up to buying a lot more games I would never try in the sixth generation, such as Bioshock, Mass Effect, Assassin Creed, etc.

I mostly ignored the tropes when I was younger but as an adult I can't toletate the cringe.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

No

yeah, I had less games and more time.
Now I have more games and less time. :[

The problem is that I love action adventure and rpg games, and those games require a lot of time.

Yes, man has it. I used to play games at least 5-10 hours a day in my teens. Say...13-17. But ever since I got into University and seeing the competition I'm going up against, and finding out how serious I'd have to take myself to make it anywhere, my attitude towards games changed.

What sucks is, I'm studying Media Arts in 3D Art and 2D Illustration so I'm around a lot of gamers all the time. Everyone is playing with their 3DS o Smartphone. So I feel bad when I can't talk about certain games that other people have been playing because I don't get time to play them anymore.

I'm at the point where gaming is just something I do on the side except for huge game releases. Like Zelda BoTW...I have to set time aside during the semester to play that game. I have to set time aside for Final Fantasy XV. In additon to this, my family has a pretty bad history with video games. Mostly males. They play them too much. One of my cousins lost his wife because all he did was play games when he was off work. I don't want to get to that point. So in short, my gaming habits have changed but it's all in moderation.
