bigjon - I like the analysis. The trend is interesting. There are some DS games that are known for their "legs" and the Wii seems to be duplicating some of that success. I blame Wii Fit.
To play advocatus diaboli. It could have something to do with the fact that the number of really good non-Party Wii games is not exactly astronomic. So the huge number of people who buy a Wii concentrate themselves on a few games. IMO the only explanation that a PS2 port like RE4 was doing so well.

You need to update your profile. It shows only 10 wii games and 6 360 games. |
a lot of consoles have major titles with good legs. nothing that surprising.
the original gears of war sold 14k last week.

RE4 is almost certainly ported from the gamecube. Additional content from the PS2 version was added, but otherwise it looks just like the gamecube version (I have both).
You're making an observation that is consistent with that you want it to be, but it is also consistent with the more standard "people like good games" idea. Wii owners are buying good games -- few good games are ignored. Zack & Wiki is one example, but a lot of the 2006/2007 third party releases were crap. No one is going to argue with you there. More and more third party games are coming out high quality, however, and that's what people have been observing with high sales. Cross platform games like Guitar Hero 3 are doing very well on the Wii right now.

yes this proves my point
last year at this time gears was selling 36k ww, in october it was selling 19k(WW)
Gears is a NORMAL example of good legs. The only 360 game that come to mind is COD4, that thing has legs!!!.
Even AC is trending downward like a Normal game.
I think a perfect example of this is GHIII for Wii and 360. The 360 version has been trending downward like a normal game with great legs(like most big PS2 sellers back in the day) the Wii version actually had it biggest week in a while this week.
End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)
Wii- 72 million 3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases
360- 37 million Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak
PS3- 29 million Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut
^GHIII for the wii has been sold out in my area since launch. There are stacks of the other versions but the wii ones don't last a day.
SMG is still doing great in NA but seems to have dropped off entirely in Japan and Eu/Others, so the legs can be sort of wobbly at times.
The most steady seller has to be TP, its what? 1.5 years old now? Good job indeed.
Japan is a first week market. Few games outside the DS ever have legs over there.
There are also a small market compared to US/Europe.so it makes games look like their legs are smaller even if they are selling a little bit.
Japan - 100 million
US - 300 million
Europe - 700 million
The rEVOLution is not being televised
^True, but remember that countries like Korea, China and India are part of Others, so sales there allround are horrible compared to population. Just goes to show that China and India are not huge on videogames like many think they are (why do people think that anyways?).
