I'm scared because Ubisoft keeps saying casual, but I'm somewhat at ease because Zelda BotW is a launch title. However, I assume that Nintendo is no longer trying to appeal to 3rd parties who are pushing for power. They're hoping that their console's "idea" is enough to make 3rd parties want to develop on their console. But I just don't see that happening anymore. The casual market has moved, Pokemon Go cements that even further. They've got a phone that does everything they want without buying a $400 dollar console. Those Wii players are going to be harder to win back because during the Wii's generation, there was no "smartphone" like we know it. Things have changed Nintendo, and I hope NX will at least acknowledge that. |
That's kinda the risk yes, casuals are on mobile and are spending hours/week already playing games on them and are perfectly happy with that. So it may be difficult to get them to say "well I need this other $250-$300 home box just to play more $50 video games on".
The new controller or gimmick or whatever it is needs to be something really unbelievably awesome and new.
