Forums - Nintendo - Ubisoft on NX: “what we have seen is really great”

Casuals... it's fine to court them Nintendo but why not court casuals and hardcore? I'm scared because Ubisoft keeps saying casual, but I'm somewhat at ease because Zelda BotW is a launch title. However, I assume that Nintendo is no longer trying to appeal to 3rd parties who are pushing for power. They're hoping that their console's "idea" is enough to make 3rd parties want to develop on their console. But I just don't see that happening anymore.

The casual market has moved, Pokemon Go cements that even further. They've got a phone that does everything they want without buying a $400 dollar console. Those Wii players are going to be harder to win back because during the Wii's generation, there was no "smartphone" like we know it. Things have changed Nintendo, and I hope NX will at least acknowledge that.

That's kinda the risk yes, casuals are on mobile and are spending hours/week already playing games on them and are perfectly happy with that. So it may be difficult to get them to say "well I need this other $250-$300 home box just to play more $50 video games on".

The new controller or gimmick or whatever it is needs to be something really unbelievably awesome and new.

Babyz and toys and happy families and jumping and peaceful and yet another betrayal of the dedicated fanbase.

I'm kinda confused as to what you're even angry about. Don't you want a casual Nintendo console? So why are you upset if developers are excited about a casual platform?

It's annoying that there are always people who will feel inclined to take Ubisoft's word for something when all Ubisoft does is throw trash at Nintendo systems regardless of what they are. Of course Ubisoft is looking forward to a new Nintendo system, because it will give them their next chance to sell games to people who don't know Ubisoft, but it's no indicator for what NX will be like.

Doesn't saying it's going to possibly bring back casual gamers give a pretty big clue as to what the machine will be like?

I don't even know why this would bother you, isn't this what you wanted? You wanted them to go back to chasing the Wii audience, well it sounds like that is what the NX is.

Gonna be lots of stuff like Just Dance on it. Making casual games for a casual platform is "making trash"? No that's just making games for the style of the console.

Casuals, of course. What else did you think Nintendo do? If anyone thinks this NX will be for hardcore crowd, then don't buy it. 3RD party support, unlikely for a long term thing.

Yup, you can easily have console for casuals and core gamers in same time.

But it's a positive quote about Nintendo so it must be true. The only chance it wouldn't be true is if it was something negative. That's how the world works, right?

I get it, but I hope NX at least offers a decent upgrade over the Wii U. Nintendo games already look pretty decent so 1 TFLOP + 4-5GB of RAM even would at least be a good upgrade for those of us who like to get something legitimately better with a new console and not just a plastic controller as the sole draw.

Well its seems like Ubisoft think NX will have mass appealing and that will bring casuals back, and thats actually good thing because Wii U didn't had any appealing outside hard core Nintendo fans.
