Rogue One director reveals panic when George Lucas nitpicked Star Wars prequel: 'I'd be having heart attacks'
Star Wars visionary George Lucas no longer has an active creative hand in the franchise - but that didn't stop him from visiting prequel Rogue One's set and freaking out the crew. "I was told on Friday [he'd be coming] and spent the whole weekend crapping myself," Edwards revealed at Rogue One's Star Wars Celebration panel on Friday"I challenge anyone to have a more surreal experience than showing a Star Wars film to George Lucas. He'd criticise things, but then we'd realise he was joking. But we'd all be having heart attacks."Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, also visited the Rogue One set - and gave Godzilla director Edwards the thrill of a lifetime."He was wearing a Godzilla T-shirt," Edwards gleefully recalled. "I don't know what I said to him."I was trying to be articulate, but all I could really think was, 'Please lord someone be taking a photo of this'."
The latest trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has given fans a long-awaited glimpse of Darth Vader.
The trailer, shown to thousands of fans at the Star Wars Celebration event in London, ends with a shot of Vader and his trademark heavy breathing. Director Gareth Edwards revealed James Earl Jones, who voiced Vader in the original trilogy, will be back in the new film. The veteran actor recorded his dialogue in New York last December. Edwards said recording the dialogue had been "like an early Christmas present". He described how he and his sound recordist had a "nerd-gasm" when they heard Jones say the word "power" in his deep, distinctive voice.
The trailer is not available to the public, but I'm so excited about Rogue One now. It's good to see young directors taking established franchises and giving them a breath of fresh air. There are so many good films being released this year. I hope I won't get disappointed
