This is tough because Sony's franchises are so inconsistent.

If Ico/Shadow of the Colossus counts as a spiritual series, I might pick that.

Wipeout is ineligible as it's been on Sega and Nintendo systems.

Ratchet & Clank is up there too, and I haven't even played all of the games. God of War, too. Basically a bunch of stuff that started on PS2 is up there - that was the golden age of Sony first-party software.

What do you mean by inconsistent? Their overall output may vary in quality, but individual franchises are very consistent with maybe Killzone as an exception.

I disagree with PS2 being their best first party period, as most PlayStation gamers I know only cared about Gran Turismo and God of War back then, but on PS3 they have many more favourites along with these like Infamous, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance and Killzone which started on PS2 but became a high quality series on PS3.

I wouldn't consider two IP's as one even if they are made by the same developer.

Uncharted.

Inconsistent in quality. It's hard to think of a PS first-party franchise that hasn't turned in a bad game or two.

I gotta stick with PS2 on this. Most of the great Sony first party games arrived on PS2: Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, God of War II, The Precursor Legacy, Killzone, Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal. By comparison PS3 was weak, with only a few standout titles like Uncharted 2 and Infamous. PS4 has been even less impressive. Thankfully a lot of good third party content has filled in the blanks on PS3 and PS4.

Ratchet and Clank, Killzone are inconsistent, but which other major franchise of theirs is? God of War is very consistent in quality, Infamous has got better with each game, Uncharted has got better with each game, Gran Turismo is consistent, LittleBigPlanet is consistent.

Some of the PS2 games you mentioned are from the same franchises, and then you should mention games like God of War 3, Infamous 2, Killone 2 and 3, Uncharted 3, TLOU, GT6 on PS3. Killzone on PS2 was really a terrible game, it is easily the worst game in the series.

As for PS4, it got the best Infamous and Uncharted games, a great game like Bloodborne, other good exclusives like Driveclub and LittleBigPlanet 3 and its getting a lot of other games so its early to judge the system, but its been good so far.

Ratchet and Clank!!!

Wipeout, Uncharted and Persona are good shouts though!!! (Yes I know Persona Q was on 3ds.)

Persona isn't an exclusive franchise if its on other consoles.

So I'm not allowed to say Persona even though every mainline game, every remake of mainline games and almost every spinoff game in the series is PlayStatoin exclusive, yet in your Xbox exclusive franchise thread you put Minecraft in the poll? xD

And Banjo Kazooie...

You just commited a serious sin for not putting in TLOU and SOTC in the poll. They only have 1 game each for now, but they may get more games in the future.

Easily God of War, such a great series. All hopes on the new GoW to reinvigorate my excitement for gaming.

Infamous has only produced one good game: the first one. They've been getting worse since then. Uncharted has been mostly good, minus the third installment, which was a mess. The first Killzone and Mercenary are good. Killzone 2, 3, and Shadowfall are all mediocre at best.

Sony just doesn't have a very good first-party track record. The ecosystem has always thrived off third party exclusives and multiplats. The PS2 is the big exception to that rule, and that's one of the reasons it's arguably the best system ever made.

If Ico and Shadow of the Colossus count as a single franchise then that's my choice. Second place would be Ratchet & Clank.
