I actually played one once, my cousin was like the only guy in the county who had one (I'm not even kidding, there were only a few hundred or so sold in Norway!).

Not really. Sony and Microsoft BOTH rely on third-parties 65% of the time. Nintendo is the one company that can survive off first- and second-parties.
Well the Dreamcast was the bestest system ever. You can't expect the PS3 to perform to that standard.

So the PS3 tracked close the the dreamcast for a while then matched the dreamcasts totals in a big jump in about half the time. What is the similarity here?

One problem, isn't this over time? This means the PS3 has sold more at this point in time than the DC did in the same amount of time. The PS3 is ahead when you're comparing the amount sold to the time it took each one.
Or am I confusing the lines? I'm red-green colorblind, so it's hard for me to tell which is which.
